Rory McIIlroy

Rory McIlroy and his golfing partner Shane Lowry clinched the 2024 Zurich Classic in dramatic fashion, relying heavily on some impressive shots under pressure and not to forget the amazing

Qi10 Driver

McIlroy’s Qi10 driver has a unique backstory. During a content shoot for TaylorMade in the fall of 2023, McIlroy discovered a larger head profile in the Qi10 series that was more forgiving than he expected.

The high MOI (moment of inertia) helped him find the centre of the face more often, allowing him to experiment with a longer driver shaft for added distance without sacrificing accuracy.

  • Head: Qi10 9.0°
  • Measured Loft: 8.25°
  • Loft Sleeve: 1.5° sleeve set to one click lower
  • Lie: 57.5°
  • Shaft: Ventus Black 6X
  • Length: 45”
  • Tipping: 1’’
  • Swingweight: D4
  • Grip: Golf Pride Multi-Compound Blackout (1+1 Wraps Logo Up)

“With the slightly larger profile of the core head, it looked great to me at address, and I found the middle of the face easier. I think sometimes when I played the longer shaft, I’ve struggled to find the middle of the face and when I went to the shorter shaft and I found the middle a bit easier. With this Qi10 driver I felt I was finding the middle of the face way easier so I thought why not try a longer shaft to see if I can get more distance?”

McIlroy switched to a 45-inch Ventus Black 6X, identical to his Qi10 fairway woods, and was able to maintain a ball speed of 186 MPH with a 330-yard carry, a crucial factor in his Zurich Classic win.

While the Qi10 driver played a pivotal role, McIlroy’s short game was equally impressive.

In Sunday’s alternate-shot format, McIlroy and Lowry faced a daunting pitch on the par-5 18th hole.

Using his Vokey SM10 WedgeWorks 58.06K (bent to 59 degrees), McIlroy delivered an incredible shot to 3 feet, setting up the lead-tying birdie that forced a playoff.

During the playoff, McIlroy again relied on his Vokey 58.06K. He expertly played from a front bunker, allowing his partner to set up for the tournament-winning par putt. The wedge’s versatility and precision were instrumental in their victory.
