When it comes to stirring up a golfing frenzy, England Golf has just served up a beauty. In April 2025, England Golf saw over 5,200 enthusiastic players tee up with iGolf subscriptions—and a staggering 1.4 million scores registered through the World Handicap System™ (WHS™).
iGolf Sign-Ups Soar to New Heights
Launched in 2021 as a gateway for non-club members to earn a Handicap Index®, iGolf now boasts 60,000 subscribers.
But April’s surge smashed all previous records, with more than 5,200 new iGolfers signing on—the previous high-water mark of 3,989 set just last July was left eating dust.
5,200+ new iGolf subscriptions in April
60,000 total iGolf subscribers
16,500+ iGolfers progressing to club membership
Part of the reason? Glorious spring sunshine—though let’s be honest, few of us mind an excuse to knock a few balls about. And then there’s the Rory factor: Rory McIlroy completing the Grand Slam had golf fans itching to chase their own slice of glory.
WHS™ Scores Hit Unprecedented Levels

The golfers’ swing wasn’t the only thing that soared. April’s 1.4 million WHS™ score submissions marked the highest monthly tally on record—a 95% increase compared to April 2024—and points to a competitive spirit alive and well on courses up and down the country.
From January through April, England Golf recorded a 67% uptick in WHS™ submissions versus the same period last year, which itself was a banner year with 10.2 million scores entered.
A Seamless Pathway: From iPlay to Club Membership
At the gentler end of the spectrum lies iPlay, launched late in 2023. This free, fuss-free feature in the MyEG app lets casual or beginner golfers—think adventure-golf aficionados—log scores and track an “average score indicator.” It’s all part of England Golf’s plan to cultivate players at every level.
Head of iGolf/iPlay Claire Hodgson summed it up perfectly: “In July last year we had 3989 people subscribe to iGolf, which was our previous record, so it’s been smashed by some way this April.
“It really has been a remarkable month, not just for people signing up for iGolf, but for people getting out on the course and playing.
Whether some of it has been down to the weather or the ‘Rory’ factor, it’s fantastic to see so many people being inspired to get a Handicap Index® and play more golf.”
The ladder from iPlay through iGolf to full club membership is proving robust:
760+ iPlay users stepping up to iGolf
3,800+ iGolfers upgrading to club membership so far in 2025
16,500+ total iGolfers now part of a club
As Claire Hodgson emphasises: “We have created a pathway for everyone to get into the game of golf.
Whether it’s beginners or infrequent players using iPlay, or iGolf catering for golfers who can’t justify club membership just yet, the numbers are showing that it’s paying dividends.
“Over 760 iPlay users have moved into iGolf to date, while we’ve already had over 3,800 iGolfers take up golf club membership this year, which shows the role both offers play in supporting the wider game.
“The pathway is clear for golfers – from iPlay, to iGolf, to club membership – and it’s great that the statistics are showing that more and more people are getting into our sport and progressing through the offers developed by England Golf within the MyEG app.”
