Garrick Porteous Clinches Second Challenge Tour Victory in Thrilling Abu Dhabi Showdown

Garrick Porteous

In an exhilarating finale at the Abu Dhabi Challenge, Garrick Porteous emerged victorious, claiming his second Challenge Tour title after a gripping battle at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club.

Porteous, entering the final round tied for the lead, showcased remarkable composure, carding a flawless seven-under-par round of 63 to finish at 24 under par, clinching a one-stroke victory over seasoned DP World Tour campaigner Alexander Levy.

Reflecting on his long-awaited triumph, Porteous expressed his elation, stating, “It feels amazing…”

“You always doubt whether another win will come, but I feel like my game is trending in the right direction.”

His victory, marking his first professional win since the Prague Golf Challenge in 2017, underscores his resurgence in form and determination.

Porteous, a resident of Dubai, credited his familiarity with the UAE conditions as a crucial factor in his success.

“To win on home soil is great… I’m used to the weather conditions, the heat, the grass type, and the speed of the greens”.

“It definitely helped in the situations this week,” he remarked, highlighting the advantage of local knowledge.

The thrilling competition also saw notable performances from Dane Nicolai Kristensen, securing third place, and Scotland’s Euan Walker, who matched the course record with a spectacular final round of 60 to claim fourth position alongside Oliver Bekker of South Africa and Connor Purcell of Ireland.

With this victory, Porteous not only secures a significant milestone in his career but also ascends to the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings, consolidating his position as a formidable contender in the golfing world.

The stage is now set for the upcoming UAE Challenge at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, promising another exciting chapter in the Challenge Tour saga.

Stay tuned as Porteous and the field of talented golfers continue their journey, striving for excellence on the challenging yet rewarding path of professional golf.
