From Fairways to Foodbanks: Genesis Scottish Open’s £1M Charity Impact

The Genesis Scottish Open and its official charity partner, The Renaissance Club Charitable Foundation (TRCCF), have now chanelled more than £1 million into good causes since the tournament first teed off at East Lothian in 2019.

Since the Genesis Scottish Open rolled into town, golfers and local champions alike have been rallying behind everything from junior swings to community kitchens.

It’s not every day a golf tournament doubles as a philanthropic powerhouse. TRCCF—set up by the folks who own The Renaissance Club—picked up the baton in 2022, and this year’s reception saw ambassadors and trustees clinking glasses with representatives from over 20 charities.

Through the Genesis Scottish Open, funding has flowed into causes both local and national, all chosen to leave a lasting footprint in Scotland.

On-the-Ground Ambassador: Grant Forrest

North Berwick native—and Renaissance Club member—Grant Forrest brought his DP World Tour swagger to a reception at the Club, rubbing shoulders with the people whose lives have shifted because of TRCCF grants.

“It’s been a real privilege to spend time with representatives from the charities who have benefitted through TRCCF and the Genesis Scottish Open.

“Some of the work that is going on in communities locally and across Scotland is really impressive, and what is so important about the way that TRCCF allocates the funding is that projects big and small have been able to benefit.

I’ve been out to visit some of the projects and seen for myself how even the smallest donations can make a big impact, and I look forward to telling the stories of some of these amazing organisations in the run up to this year’s tournament.”

Trustee Insight: Growing Ambitions

Behind every great donation, there’s a committee burning the midnight oil. TRCCF Treasurer Jerry Sarvadi explained the foundation’s rapid rise:

“In the short three years since The Renaissance Club Charitable Foundation’s creation, we have attempted to contribute to as many charities as possible.

TRCCF intends to continue to grow in the future and hopefully make a much larger impact on many worthwhile charitable entities throughout East Lothian and all of Scotland.”

DP World Tour Championship Director Rory Colville tipped his hat to the long legacy of giving that the Genesis Scottish Open has upheld.

“Scotland’s national open has a long history of charitable giving, and it’s wonderful to see how the £1 million of funding raised since 2019 has benefited East Lothian and beyond.

“Via our Global Community principles, the DP World Tour is committed to leaving a positive legacy on the communities that we visit, and the partnership between the Genesis Scottish Open and TRCCF really demonstrates how funding allocations – both big and small – can make a real difference.”

Who’s Benefitting?

In 2024 alone, TRCCF’s grants touched everything from hospital wards to wildlife sanctuaries. Recipients included:
