What Makes Titleist’s 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x Golf Balls a Game-Changer?

The wizards at Titleist have once again delivered a masterstroke in golf ball sorcery.

Their latest unveiling—2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x—promises not only to help you send tee shots into orbit but also to rein them in with a dash of spin when you start swinging those wedges.

Here’s the scoop on what’s going on beneath those famous dimples.

A New Formula For Faster Speed And Higher Spin

Titleist’s Golf Ball R&D folks have a proven knack for alchemy, and they’ve redoubled their efforts this time with a brand-new high gradient core.

The magic recipe maintains low spin off the tee (so those drives can really fly), while upping the spin when you switch to your irons and wedges (so your approach shots stick like they’ve got Velcro on ‘em).

Factor in a little extra ball speed, and you’ll see why players can’t wait to get their hands on the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

Frederick Waddell, Director of Golf Ball Product Management, says it best: “The golf ball has to do everything. It’s never just about maximising one
area – golfers need performance on every single shot.

Each of our golf ball models is optimised for distance off the tee, and with 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x in particular, we’ve realised a speed gain while unlocking
even better iron and wedge performance. All of which will help players
shoot lower scores.”

Already Proven On Tour

These new Pro V1 and Pro V1x models weren’t born under lab lamps alone. Titleist gave them a head start on the PGA TOUR last fall, with pros quick to put them to work.

Within just a few weeks, both 2025 Pro V1 and 2025 Pro V1x had claimed PGA TOUR victories.

That’s a fast start to what marks the 25th year of these iconic golf balls dominating leaderboards around the globe.

Jeremy Stone, Senior Vice President, Golf Ball Marketing and U.S. Sales, puts it like this: “We’re always trying to improve the golf ball in some way, and it’s all driven by golfer feedback.

We start by talking with the best players in the world, who help us define what better is for both Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

The goal is to help golfers score better, and to do that, we’re going to use every tool we have in the toolbox.”

R&D: A Never-Ending Quest For Perfection

You could say the folks in Titleist Golf Ball R&D run on coffee, data, and an undying obsession with making each new Pro V1 and Pro V1x better than the last.

It’s a cycle with no beginning or end, as they continue to stack up patents, test thousands of dimple designs, and gather mounds of data—upward of five million data points per year, to be exact.

Mike Madson, Vice President of Titleist Golf Ball R&D, sums up their approach: “What’s really inspiring is the fact that one idea opens the door for the next.

The New Pro V1 and Pro V1x build upon innovations introduced in 2023, which improve upon our efforts in 2021 and 2019.

There are no shortcuts. I think what golfers will see in 2025 Pro V1 is a product of constant innovation, and one we know is better than what came before it.”

By the numbers:

Titleist Manchester Lane
  • More than 1,700 golf ball patents line the walls of Titleist’s R&D department.
  • Each Pro V1 and Pro V1x must pass upwards of 90 quality checks before heading to your local shop (120 checks for the dual-core Pro V1x).
  • Since 2000, Titleist R&D has played with over 2,500 dimple patterns to optimise flight and distance.

It’s safe to say these folk are never short on brilliant ideas—or the follow-through to bring them to life.

Key Differences: Pro V1 Vs. Pro V1x

Pro V1 (388-dimple design):

  • New faster high gradient core for more speed, plus increased iron and wedge spin for extra control.
  • Penetrating, consistent flight.
  • Mid-flight trajectory, low long-game spin, maximum short-game spin, and that famously soft feel.

Pro V1x (348-dimple design):

  • New faster high gradient dual-core for a speed boost and extra spin on approach shots.
  • High flight and even more consistency.
  • Flies higher, spins more on full swings, and offers a slightly firmer feel compared to Pro V1.

Both models share a speed-boosting high-flex casing layer to keep long-game spin low and a soft cast urethane elastomer cover for stellar greenside spin.

What The Pros Are Saying

These brand-new balls took only five weeks on the PGA TOUR to rack up two wins—2025 Pro V1x at the ZOZO Championship and 2025 Pro V1 at The RSM Classic.

After those victories, more and more top players quickly switched over, proving that when a product performs, word spreads fast.

On the global tours, it didn’t take long for 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x to score additional trophies.

When Can You Get Your Hands On Them?

Mark your calendar for January 25, when the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x officially land in golf shops worldwide (SRP: £52).

If you like a tricked-out look, Titleist is also offering a variety of custom options right away, including Enhanced Alignment—a bigger, bolder alignment aid for aiming your putts—plus the ability to choose from more than 40 alignment designs, custom play numbers (00–99), and personalised text or logos.

So, if you’ve been itching for more speed off the tee, tighter control with your irons, and that magical short-game spin that stops the ball on a dime, the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x might just be your ticket.

And if you happen to drop a few strokes off your game in the process, well, that’s just par for the Titleist course.
