At the BNI Indonesian Masters today, two phenomenal golfers—Bubba Watson, twice adorned with the Masters’ green jacket, and Phachara Khongwatmai of the Asian Tour—served up a spectacle rarely seen.
Just ten minutes apart, each scored a hole-in-one on the par-three 11th at Royale Jakarta Golf Club, turning their remarkable feat into a windfall for Habitat for Humanity Indonesia.
Watson, wielding a pitching wedge, was the first to see his ball vanish into the hole, marking his sixth career ace.
Not long after, Khongwatmai, using a 48-degree wedge from 154 yards out, mirrored Watson’s precision, netting his second career ace.
The miraculous coincidence meant Habitat for Humanity Indonesia would receive donations sufficient to fund the construction of two homes for Indonesian families in need.
Watson, inspired by the charity’s mission and the day’s serendipity, pledged an additional home, bolstering the charity’s impact.
Post-round, Watson reflected on the broader influence of golf, noting, “The game of golf has helped tremendously around the world. For all the charity things that golf has brought to the table, it’s very special to be a part of that.
“It’s an honour and I heard there was another hole-in-one right behind me, so somebody needs to match that so there’ll be a couple families that will be helped out. So it’s an amazing thing that golf could can do that for somebody, and be able to help people.”
Phachara said: “I feel very lucky for me to make a hole-in-one, and it’s double lucky because a family gets to benefit from my good fortunate.”
Khongwatmai shared his feelings of fortune, “I feel very lucky for me to make a hole-in-one, and it’s double lucky because a family gets to benefit from my good fortune.”
Abraham Tulung, General Manager of Resource Development at Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, expressed gratitude for the golfers’ contributions.
“Habitat for Humanity Indonesia would like express our deepest gratitude to Bubba Watson and Phachara Khongwatmai for their incredible hole-in-one at the BNI Indonesian Masters 2024.
“This remarkable achievement is more than just a golfing milestone; it’s a powerful blessing that will directly impact the lives of a low-income family in Indonesia.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the BNI Indonesian Masters 2024 for their unwavering support. This partnership will help us build a brighter future for the families we serve.” Tulung stated.
This event at Royale Jakarta isn’t the first instance of dual aces in a single round on the Asian Tour.
Previous tournaments have witnessed similar rare occurrences, demonstrating that lightning can indeed strike twice—or even more—on the golf course.
