Golf fans, if you’ve ever dreamed of stepping onto the legendary Toptracer Old Course, here’s your chance to tee off into history.
Toptracer—the world’s number one range technology and the official partner of The Home of Golf—is unveiling an exclusive competition at its partner ranges featuring the Old Course Reversed from April 2 through 30.
Rewind the clock to the 19th century, when standardised golf course routings were in their infancy.
Back then, the original Old Course at St Andrews was played clockwise, beginning at what is now the first tee and ending at the seventeenth green.
Enter Old Tom Morris in the 1860s, whose innovative decision to separate the seventeenth green from the first ushered in the counterclockwise routing we celebrate today.
For nearly a century, the Old Course was played in both directions on alternating days until the counterclockwise layout finally claimed its rightful place in golf lore.
In a nod to that rich history, St Andrews Links has revived the reversed routing for three exclusive days in April—reserved for those who’ve managed to secure one of the most coveted tee times in the sport.
To complement this historic twist, Toptracer has meticulously recreated the experience in a virtual format, making the Toptracer Old Course experience accessible at 1,250 Toptracer-powered range sites around the globe.
This means more players can now relish the magic of a “lost” golf course from their local bays.
Adding to the excitement, competitors can dive into the virtual game mode on The Old Course Reversed.
The challenge is as enticing as it is historic: the player with the lowest gross score will win a tee time for two on the actual Old Course Reversed in 2026.
Golfers eager to test their skills can visit any Toptracer Range and register to play between Wednesday, April 2 and Wednesday, April 30.
“It’s an incredible privilege to exclusively offer golfers worldwide access to one of the most unique experiences at golf’s most iconic destination,” says Scott Blevins, General Manager at Toptracer.
This initiative is also a testament to the enduring partnership between Toptracer and St Andrews Links, which began in 2022 with the installation of Toptracer Range Technology at The St Andrews Links Golf Academy—The Home of Golf’s very own range facility.
In 2024, more than 700,000 rounds were played on Toptracer Range sites worldwide, a clear indicator that this blend of tradition and technology is striking a chord with golfers everywhere.
“We’re excited to have golfers worldwide experience the uniqueness of Old Course Reversed in a virtual setting.
We’re pleased to be able to work with our partners at Toptracer on this special activation.” says James Ralley at St Andrews Links.
