Last weekend, the Olazabal and Friends Charity Pro-Am turned Vilamoura’s Old Course into a playground for golfing legends, amateurs, and a whole lot of goodwill.
José Maria Olazábal, the former Ryder Cup Captain and two-time Masters champ, didn’t just host a golf event; he brought together a community to make a real difference.
With icons like Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Emanuele Canonica, and José Manuel Lara in the mix, the weekend was packed with booming drives, pinpoint putts, and plenty of laughs—all for a good cause.
It wasn’t just about golf; it was about coming together to support Sport Mundi, a Spanish non-profit that’s all about giving kids a better shot at life.
“The idea of our event is to raise money for kids,” said Olazábal. “This year we want to help in Valencia after the horrible floods at the end of October.
All proceeds go to Sport Mundi who in turn will support Save the Children’s initiatives in Valencia.
“I want to thank our hosts from DETAILS and the Old Course Vilamoura as well as all our sponsors and participants.
Without their generosity, none of this would be possible and I am grateful for the amazing support that enables us to continue our mission”.
Here’s the thing: this wasn’t just another tournament. Sure, there was golf—plenty of it—but the format was as inclusive as it was competitive.
Teams of three amateurs partnered with a pro, switching up every nine holes to give everyone a taste of playing with the best.
The weekend started with a laid-back practice round and a warm, welcoming reception, setting the vibe for what followed—two days of fun, friendly competition that didn’t skimp on intensity.
Add in some lively lunches, memorable dinner parties, and a prize-giving ceremony at the newly spruced-up Old Course Clubhouse, and it all came together as an event no one will forget anytime soon.
DETAILS Co-CEO Nuno Sepúlveda summed up the vibe: “The opportunity to join forces with the Olazabal & Friends Charity Pro-Am to raise money for Sport Mundi was extremely important to all of us at DETAILS.
It was a real pleasure to welcome everyone to our facilities at Old Course, Vilamoura and hope they experienced not only our course but also the unique atmosphere that this destination offers”.
And the cherry on top? Everyone was hosted at the elegant Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort. With its stellar hospitality and prime location just a short hop from the course, it seamlessly combined luxury with purpose, enhancing the whole experience.
