Hold your hats and even your hearts people, because The Golf Trust is doing something extraordinary with a little help from their friends at The National Lottery.
Let’s rewind a bit. Back in 2017, The Golf Trust partnered with Els for Autism, a charity founded by legendary golfer Ernie Els and his wife, Liezel.
This collaboration marked the UK’s first foray into providing golf training specifically designed for individuals on the autism spectrum.
Since then, they’ve trained over 110 sports coaches, including a hearty contingent of 75 PGA members.
It’s this kind of dedication that’s opened up the world of golf to so many who might have otherwise missed out.
Cae Menai-Davis, the mastermind behind The Golf Trust, couldn’t contain his excitement.
“Having a programme that has been specifically designed for those on the autistic spectrum is incredibly important,” he said.
And he’s right. With around 700,000 individuals in the UK affected by autism – that’s more than 1 in 100 – the potential impact of this programme is monumental.
Thanks to this new wave of funding, The Golf Trust will be delivering twelve courses, each consisting of twelve sessions, starting this September.
And where might you find these sessions, you ask? At none other than The Shire London, The West London Golf Centre, and The Pavilion in Stonebridge. But wait, there’s more!
These aren’t just golf sessions. There will also be additional Autism clinic days covering crucial topics like sleep, diet, and behaviour.
These sessions are being run in collaboration with Autism Clinic London, a top-tier service offering diagnostic assessments and post-diagnostic support for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
