Somewhere between an engineering lab and a mad scientist’s lair, TaylorMade has spun its most radical web yet: the Spider Zero Torque (ZT) putter.
Available for preorder in store from May 29 and will be in store and online on the June 19, 2025, this one’s got more buzz than a bee stuck in a Bluetooth speaker. The question is: does it roll as sweet as it reads?
Let’s find out before this spider scurries off the shelves.
A Traditional Beast with Futuristic Fangs

Since the first Spider in 2008, TaylorMade’s putters have looked like Star Wars props and performed like sacred relics.
With the Spider ZT, the brand’s kept one foot in tradition and the other boldly toe-up into the future.
And I do mean toe-up — this is the first Spider to feature a zero-torque design, boring the shaft straight through the putter’s CG like it’s drilling for oil.
By moving the balance point into a face-forward, torque-killing zone, the ZT delivers a stroke so stable it feels like it’s riding a monorail to the cup.
No hand-flipping, no wristy chaos, just a blade that stays square longer than a math teacher at a poker night.
Feel, Roll & First Dances on Bentgrass

Now, I rolled a few with the ZT at my local club — and I’ll tell you this: it’s like putting with a gyroscope dipped in silk.
The Pure Roll insert, with its 45° grooves, puts an end-over-end roll on the ball so pure it should be wearing white gloves.
The feedback is firm but not harsh. It’s the kind of feel that makes you think, “Yes, I am a genius,” after sinking a 20-footer — and makes you curse your ancestors when you miss one from three feet. But that’s golf, isn’t it?
High MOI from the triangulated sole weights makes the heel-toe balance exceptionally forgiving. It’s like putting with bumpers in the gutters — only you still feel like you earned it.
Beauty or Beast?

Visually? Let’s be honest. The Spider ZT won’t win any Miss Putter USA pageants — but neither would a Porsche 911.
The milled True Path alignment lines are clever, subtle and spaced to the exact width of a golf ball.
Combine that with the new anodised blue sole and spider-themed headcover and you’ve got a club that looks like it means business… and bites.
Granted, the alignment cues are a bit busy. If you like your sight lines like your jokes — sharp and to the point — this one might feel like a crossword puzzle at first glance. But give it a few strokes and it starts to make sense.
What’s It Made Of? Titanium? Almost.
This one’s no lightweight in build. The ZT’s 100% milled with a 303 stainless steel front, 6061 aluminium frame, and a triangulated weighting system that sounds more like a NASA project than a putter.
You get options galore: standard length, counterbalance, and long — each with a unique shaft and grip combo, tailored for feel freaks and grip-tinkerers alike.
Price & Pain: Justified or Just Expensive?
You’re looking at £449 to £549, depending on how much stick you need. That’s a fair whack for a flatstick, but let’s be honest — what’s the cost of shaving two putts a round and the smug grin that follows? Per stroke, this spider might be a bargain.
Tour-Tested, Winner-Approved
Brian Harman already bagged a win at the Valero Texas Open with a ZT prototype, and Haeran Ryu rolled her way to an LPGA victory with one too.
Tour staffers are already whispering things like, “This thing doesn’t miss… unless I do.”
“Spider putters – renowned for their stability, alignment, and roll – have been reengineered in the Spider ZT to feature a toe-up, or ‘face-forward’ balance configuration. This design minimises torque and reduces the need for hand manipulation, promoting a more consistent stroke. As a result, the putter face remains squarer to the target line throughout the putting motion, enhancing directional control and building confidence at address and through impact.” Andrew Oldknow, Director of Product Category, Product Creation
Verdict: Roll One with This Spider
If you’ve got the coin and the curiosity, give the Spider ZT a go. It won’t swing the putter for you, but it sure as hell won’t fight you, either.
Whether you’re a wristy yipper, a shoulder-locked stoic, or someone who putts like they’re diffusing a bomb — this high-MOI, zero-torque oddity might just be the eight-legged ally your bag didn’t know it needed.
Tuck it in your bag. Or at least roll one and see what the fuss is about. It might just stick.
Available in standard, counterbalance and long lengths, Spider ZT putters will be available for preorder in store from May 29 and will be in store and online on the June 19.
