TaylorMade MG5 Wedges Feature Forged Construction and Spin Retention Tech

TaylorMade MG5 Wedges burst onto the scene today with the swagger of a tour truck rolling into Augusta, and the MG5’s look determined to re-write the short-game script for 2025.

And if the early murmurs from Collin Morikawa’s locker and Tiger’s notoriously picky short-game radar are anything to go by, your current gap wedge might soon feel about as current as a persimmon driver.

Forged Feel Finally Arrives

Having quizzed elite players on the very definition of “soft,” TaylorMade’s engineers went full-tilt: the entire head is fully forged from soft carbon steel. Translation? Fewer vibrations, more feedback and consistency from hosel to toe.

The head starts life as a glowing billet, is bent into an L-shape, rough-forged, then precision-forged before CNC machines etch the grind, grooves and hosel to tour-tight tolerances.

“For my entire career, I’ve been a universal player, and that’s been reflected in my wedge setup. Over the years, I’ve specifically honed in on grind profiles that allow me to execute all the shots I need in all different conditions. The MG5 TW grind allows me to do exactly that.”

Compared to MG4, the leading edge is tidier and the topline more symmetrical—small tweaks that pay dividends when you’re hunched over a nervy 40-yarder.

Grooves Sharpened to the Edge

TaylorMade’s new saw-milled grooves push legal geometry to the cliff edge with steeper walls and a razor-sharp radius. More groove, more bite—particularly when the spin-meter matters most.

“Inspired by some feedback from Collin Morikawa, we set out to make the best feeling wedge TaylorMade has ever created. The best players will tell you having great feel around the greens is critical to having confidence in your short game… and to have the best feeling wedge, it needs to be forged.”
Matt Bovee, Director of Product Creation – Iron and Wedge

Spin That Survives a Downpour

RAW faces return, but now they’re flanked by continuous Spin Tread Technology. Microscopic channels siphon away moisture like rain grooves on a F1 tyre, holding 13 % more spin than MG4 in the wet and keeping launch angles predictable.
