Singapore Success: Niemann Wins LIV Golf Event as Fireballs Secure Third Consecutive Title

Singapore LIV Golf was ablaze once again, as Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC picked up their third straight team victory this season and Joaquin Niemann collected his second individual title in just three starts.

The streaks keep on coming—Fireballs inch closer to the fabled four-event run once staged by 4Aces GC in 2022, while Niemann climbs to the top of the season-long standings with another dominant effort at Sentosa Golf Club.

Garcia’s squad arrived in Singapore looking for their third consecutive team triumph, but the captain himself was feeling under the weather.

Bronchitis and a high fever threatened to dampen his weekend, yet Fireballs GC overcame an eight-shot final-round deficit to hoist the trophy.

“We’re the only ones that can keep the streak alive,” Garcia said. “Hopefully we’ll keep it going.”

NIEMANN’S HOT HAND

Niemann unleashed a bogey-free 6-under 65 on Sunday to pull away by five shots.

The Chilean didn’t waste any time, carding a birdie on his opening hole and adding four more in a scorching five-hole stretch.

The 26-year-old is now perched atop the Individual Champion points standings, his eyes set on maintaining that lead for a U.S. Open exemption at Oakmont.

“Today was one of those days,” said Niemann, who cruised to victory by three shots in Adelaide, too. “Everything went my way.”

While the Torque GC captain soared to 17 under, Dustin Johnson—tied with Niemann entering the final round—suffered four bogeys and slipped to a 2-over 73.

Even defending champion Brooks Koepka and his spirited start couldn’t catch Niemann down the stretch.

“Not really hitting it great,” Koepka admitted after finishing solo second at 12 under. “First was obviously out of reach.”

FIREBALLS’ FIGHTING SPIRIT

For the Fireballs, the biggest scare wasn’t only the growing scoreboard gap, but Garcia’s bronchitis.

“This week was a tough week because I’ve been sick all week and haven’t been able to help the team as much as I would have liked to,” Garcia noted.

“To see the performance that my teammates put in to be able to get this win was pretty impressive.”

David Puig soared to solo fourth with a 10-under total, aided by a final-round 66, and received backup from teammates Luis Masaveu (68) and Abraham Ancer (69).

Tying for the day’s lowest team score (10 under), they surged past the competition with a final mark of 22 under, three ahead of the nearest challengers.

“Counting four scores, eight strokes seem like a lot, but it can change in two holes,” Ancer said. “We just told ourselves that, and we just needed to take care of business and play our game.”

As for Puig, it was his eighth overall LIV Golf team victory—two squads, eight wins, and endless bragging rights.

“I guess I’m just the best player in LIV Golf history. That’s what it is, right?” Puig joked, prompting his captain to retort: “The best team player in LIV Golf history.”

RYDER CUP CHATTER

Puig now sits sixth in points. Asked if the 23-year-old might be on Europe’s radar for the upcoming Ryder Cup, Garcia—no stranger to the event—offered cautious optimism.

“Why not? Obviously, he’s a great player, and he’s becoming an even greater player … I would lie if I didn’t think that Luke [Donald] and his team are not looking at him.”

RAHM ROLLS ON

Meanwhile, Jon Rahm posted his 21st consecutive LIV Golf round under par with a 4-under 67—breaking the record he once shared with Bryson DeChambeau.

Rahm, who tied for fifth, continues to rack up top-10 finishes in every event he’s completed, with one notable withdrawal due to injury serving as the lone outlier.

CAMPBELL’S CLIMB

Range Goats GC’s Ben Campbell cemented a solo-third finish at 11 under, vaulting to 11th in the points race.

His performance included perfect driving accuracy in the final round, setting a formidable foundation for a push toward the season-ending top-24 Lock Zone.

LOOKING AHEAD

Up next is LIV Golf Miami from April 4-6—an event Fireballs GC hope will keep their scorching streak alive and where Niemann plans to add another highlight to his sparkling résumé.

As the Chilean ace put it: “I feel like that for me is really exciting to become a better player and try to get better every day.”

From Sunday’s heroics to the contagious team spirit and the rising tide of new contenders, Singapore LIV Golf once again delivered drama of the highest order.

The only question now: can anyone cool off these Fireballs—and will Joaquin Niemann’s torrid run continue stateside?

As Garcia wryly noted, “Hopefully we’ll keep it going.” Based on the action so far, no one should doubt it.
