Well, folks, get ready for a golf extravaganza in Shenzhen that’s about to knock your socks off!
The Shenzhen Aramco Team Series, organized by Golf Saudi and the China Golf Association (CGA), is teeing off at the legendary Mission Hills Resort from October 4-6, 2024.
And let me tell you, the lineup is more stacked than a Sunday brunch buffet, with China’s finest and the LPGA’s fiercest ready to take a swing at glory.
Leading the charge is the young prodigy Ruoning Yin. At just 21, she’s already got more feathers in her cap than a peacock in full display.
The World No. 5 and China’s top-ranked golfer, Yin made a serious splash with her victory at the 2023 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
And if that wasn’t enough, she’s also racked up the most consecutive wins on the China LPGA Tour.
Fresh off her recent triumph with Thailand’s Atthaya Thitkul at the Dow Championship, Yin is chomping at the bit to debut in the Shenzhen Aramco Team Series.
“I’ve heard a lot about the Aramco Team Series from other players on Tour who say how much fun it is to play as part of a team,” Yin said, probably with that fire in her eyes.
“It’s a unique event, and after enjoying the team format at the Dow Championship, I’m excited to debut in this series. I can’t wait to play before a home crowd and feed off their energy.”
Joining her is none other than Xiyu Lin, China’s very own Olympic bronze medalist.
Lin’s back to defend her crown after last year’s dramatic victory at the Aramco Team Series in Hong Kong. Now, that wasn’t just any victory.
The final round got washed out by rain, and Lin had to win it the hard way—in a playoff against Jin Young Ko. She’s looking for her first win since that nail-biter and is pretty pumped about getting another shot in Shenzhen.
“Playing in Hong Kong last year was a great experience, even with the shortened tournament due to the rain,” Lin shared.
“I’m hoping we’ll get to play all three days this time around! Returning as the defending individual champion, I always strive to do my best.
Still, I’m especially excited to see such a high-calibre tournament being brought to mainland China and the talented field it attracts.”
And it doesn’t stop there, folks. The Shenzhen Aramco Team Series isn’t just a flashy name; it’s a cornerstone of the Ladies European Tour (LET) with a whopping $5 million USD prize fund.
The event’s unique format—combining team play and individual stroke play—makes it a thrill ride from start to finish.
For this leg in Shenzhen, we’ve got 28 teams of three pros and one lucky amateur duking it out over two days of team action, followed by a three-day battle for individual glory.
Now, let’s talk about Alison Lee. The LPGA star and upcoming Solheim Cup warrior has been making quite the waves herself.
Lee lit up Riyadh Golf Club last year with a jaw-dropping 29-under-par finish, setting a new 54-hole scoring record.
She’s back in the mix and gunning for her third Aramco Team Series title after notching wins in Sotogrande and Riyadh. With a recent T3 finish in London, she’s ready to give Yin and Lin a run for their money.
And then there’s Angel Yin, another American sharpshooter and a key part of Team USA’s Solheim Cup squad in 2023.
Ranked World No. 32, Yin is back for her second Aramco Team Series appearance this year after a rocky cut in London.
She’s looking to bounce back in Shenzhen and show why she’s one of the most formidable players on the circuit.
Not to be outdone, China’s Muni He will also grace the fairways at Mission Hills.
She’s as known for her social media savvy as her skills with a 7-iron. After a T33 finish in the weather-shortened Hong Kong edition last year, Muni is keen to show her home fans what she’s really made of.
So, grab your visors and sunblock because the Shenzhen Aramco Team Series is shaping up to be one of the most electrifying events on the golfing calendar.
A stellar field, a unique format, and the unpredictable drama of golf—what more could you ask for?
