If you thought golf in the desert couldn’t get any more dramatic, think again. The celebrated Rio Secco Golf Club has shed its old skin and reemerged as Serket, a course with as much bite as its new scorpion-inspired logo.
Just twenty minutes from the Strip, it promises championship golf in the morning and blackjack by night — with the Mojave Desert providing the backdrop for both triumph and humiliation.
The transformation isn’t just cosmetic. This is Cabot-Managed Properties’ latest move in reshaping the luxury golf landscape, giving a course already dripping with accolades a fresh identity to match its surroundings.
Designed by Rees Jones, the layout was never short on drama, with fairways that can make or break a round quicker than you can say “double bogey.” Now it comes with a name that nods to the ancient Egyptian goddess Serket, protector against venomous stings. Fitting, since a stray swing here can sting worse than your Vegas bar tab.
“Through Cabot-Managed Properties, our mission is to continually elevate the properties within our portfolio, ensuring each destination delivers an exceptional golf experience that reflects its unique character,” said Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of Cabot.
“The transformation to Serket melds the course’s natural splendour with a refreshed identity that captures both the spirit of the game and the surrounding Mojave Desert.”

That desert spirit is now stamped across every inch of the property, from bold new signage and tee markers to scorecards featuring the menacing scorpion crest.
The symbolism isn’t subtle: this is golf with edge. It’s still the same sweeping views of the Las Vegas Valley, still the surgically manicured fairways, but now with an identity that feels built for Sin City’s larger-than-life stage.
“The team is very excited to launch our new brand identity, and we can’t wait to officially reopen on September 20 as Serket,” said Jeff Krohn, executive vice president of Cabot-Managed Properties. “We look forward to offering our guests an amazing golf experience this fall as we make the transition from Rio Secco to Serket.”
It’s a bold gamble, but in Las Vegas, what isn’t? The move also strengthens Cabot’s growing footprint across the U.S. golf scene.
Since 2022, its Cabot-Managed Properties arm has expanded to oversee four standout tracks: Chariot Run in Indiana, Grand Bear in Mississippi, and now both Cascata and Serket Golf Las Vegas anchoring the desert lineup.
For players, the message is simple: Serket isn’t a reinvention, it’s an evolution.
The course that locals and travellers already loved hasn’t changed its teeth — it’s just decided to bare them with a bit more style.
And in this town, where image counts almost as much as the final scorecard, that feels like the perfect play.
