The Senior Open Presented by Rolex, Europe’s only Senior Major Championship, is set to return to Carnoustie Golf Links from July 25-28, 2024.
This marks the third time the event will be held at Carnoustie, and the star-studded field is already beginning to take shape, with defending champion Alex Čejka and two-time Masters winner José María Olazábal among the key participants.
Olazábal, the Spanish golfer who earned his Green Jackets in 1994 and 1999, recently made the cut at Augusta National, finishing tied for 45th after an impressive level-par closing round of 72.
At 58, Olazábal is known for his legendary Ryder Cup exploits, particularly as the man behind the Miracle at Medinah in 2012.
He is eager to compete in The Senior Open and has fond memories of the iconic UK golf courses.
“The Senior Open Presented by Rolex is always a special week, and I am excited to play at Carnoustie later this year,” he said. “This event gives us the opportunity to play some of the most iconic courses in the United Kingdom, and to get the opportunity to compete at Carnoustie again, somewhere I’ve not been for over ten years, is amazing.”
Germany’s Čejka, the reigning Senior Open champion, defeated Pádraig Harrington in a play-off last year at Royal Porthcawl to claim his third Senior Major Championship.
The four-time DP World Tour winner made a two-putt birdie at the second extra hole to secure the victory and is now looking to defend his title in Scotland.
“It was incredible seeing all those great names on the trophy, and I feel so honoured to be defending this great title later this year,” said Čejka.
“It was one of the most special days in my whole career, and the importance of the victory is not lost on me.”
