In the world of golf, few places boast the allure and historical prestige of the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.
It’s with great excitement that this venerable venue has been selected to host the men’s and women’s golf competitions during the much-anticipated 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Antony Scanlon, the Executive Director of the International Golf Federation, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. “We are honoured to work alongside LA28 and the world-renowned Riviera Country Club to host the golf competitions during the 2028 Los Angeles Games,” he remarked.
The club promises a prestigious and continuously challenging backdrop for the crème de la crème of the golfing world, and it’s an opportunity to showcase one of the finest courses globally.
Founded in 1926 by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, Riviera has been a beacon in the golfing community, renowned for hosting top-tier events, including the 1995 PGA Championship and the 1998 U.S. Senior Open.
As it gears up to celebrate its centennial in 2026, Riviera is no stranger to the grand stage, having also been chosen for the 2017 U.S. Amateur and the forthcoming 2026 U.S. Women’s Open and 2031 U.S. Open.
The history of Los Angeles as an Olympic city will be further enriched come 2028, marking the third occasion the city has hosted the Summer Games.
Golf, reintroduced in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games and continuing through Tokyo 2020 and the upcoming Paris 2024, will celebrate its sixth Olympic appearance and fourth since its 1904 inclusion.
The excitement kicks off with the Opening Ceremony on July 14, 2028. The men’s Olympic golf competition will tee off between August 1-4, closely followed by the women’s competition from August 7-10.
The Riviera’s globally acclaimed course is primed to deliver an unforgettable experience, both for the athletes and the global audience tuning in to witness golf history in the making.
