Rasmus Højgaard Looking to Defend His Title at the Danish Golf Championship

Rasmus Hojgaard of Denmark speaks in a press conference prior to the Danish Golf Championship 2024 at Lubker Golf Resort

Rasmus Højgaard, the young Danish dynamo, is back and ready to take another swing at glory as he gears up to defend his title at the Danish Golf Championship.

The tournament, now marking its tenth anniversary, has a fresh new feel, but the target on Højgaard’s back remains as bright as ever.

Last year, Højgaard made history as the first Danish player to clinch the crown at this event—then known as Made in HimmerLand—by outlasting Spain’s Nacho Elvira in a nerve-wracking, six-hole playoff that had spectators on the edge of their seats.

Now, at 23 years old, he’s not just looking to repeat; he’s looking to make it look easy.

But it’s not going to be a walk in the park. Joining Rasmus on the fairways of Lübker Golf Resort is an army of Danish talent—23 players to be exact, including his twin brother Nicolai, who’s itching to get his hands on that trophy. The sibling rivalry adds a spicy subplot to an already intriguing event.

And then there’s the legend himself, Thomas Bjørn. The 2018 Ryder Cup Captain and a man with 15 DP World Tour wins under his belt, Bjørn is not just playing; he’s the Tournament Chairman, the grand marshal of this Danish parade. His presence alone is enough to elevate the stakes.

Rasmus will be paired with Germany’s Marcel Siem and France’s Romain Langasque for the first two rounds, a trio that promises some fireworks.

Nicolai, on the other hand, will face off with Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin and Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen, who’s already bagged a DP World Tour title this year at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.

But the field isn’t just a family affair. Keep an eye on Jacob Skov Olesen, the amateur phenom who became the first Dane to win the Amateur Championship earlier this year.

He’s making his regular DP World Tour debut, fresh off a solid showing at The 152nd Open where he not only played but made the cut—a feat that’s no small potatoes.

Another player to watch is Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, who currently leads the Challenge Tour’s Road to Mallorca Rankings.

After making the cut at HimmerLand last year, he’s back for another crack at the Danish Golf Championship, and he’s got a point to prove.

So, as the Danish Golf Championship kicks off, all eyes are on Rasmus Højgaard.

Will he defend his title, or will a new name rise from the pack? One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a show worth watching.
