In a heart-pounding finale at Tandridge, Guia Vittoria Acutis of Italy clinched the 2024 English Girls’ U16 Championship title.
She outshone England’s rising star Lauren Crump in a gripping play-off, denying Crump a second championship win within a week.
A Battle Against the Elements
The tournament, initially slated for 36 holes on the final day, faced a weather curveball.
Predicted afternoon storms forced organisers to cut it down to 18 holes. Acutis navigated these changes with aplomb, carding a -2 (71) while Crump posted a 72 (-1), leading to a tie at the top with both golfers finishing -4 over their 54 holes.
The Play-off Drama
The tension soared as Acutis and Crump moved to the 10th for the decisive play-off hole.
Acutis’ approach landed gracefully on the green, while Crump’s effort fell just short.
Unable to scramble for par, Crump watched as Acutis calmly secured hers, sealing a well-earned victory.
Lauren Crump, the English Girls’ Champion from last week, found herself leading into the final day alongside Eva Myers of Chesterfield.
However, Myers fell off the pace, and Annabel Peaford, the European Young Masters champion from last week, managed only -1 (72), placing her 3rd overall at -3.
Strong International Performances
Czech Republic’s Barbora Vinkler had a solid final round of -1 (72), earning her a 4th place finish.
Meanwhile, Spanish golfers Amanda Revuelta and Adriana Garcia Terol, last year’s U14 champion, claimed 5th and 6th positions respectively.
Poissonnier Dominates U14 Championship
In the Under 14 Championship, France’s Margaux Poissonnier entered the final round with a commanding 10-shot lead.
Despite a +4 in her final 18 holes, Poissonnier secured the title with a +1 overall finish.
Sutton’s Serafima Taylor finished a distant 2nd at +9, with Spain’s Iciar Rodriguez taking 3rd at +10.
