The PGA of America has found itself a new co-pilot, and it’s no budget airline. In a sweeping multiyear deal announced today, American Airlines has officially joined the big leagues as the “Official Airline” of the PGA of America, PGA HOPE, the PGA Championship, and Ryder Cup USA—all the way through to 2027.
Yes, you read that right. The airline once known for peanuts and legroom is now offering front-row access to the fairways.
This isn’t just about a logo slapped on a leaderboard. It’s a strategic alliance aimed at enhancing the travel experience for PGA Professionals and the thousands of golf fanatics who descend upon major tournaments like birds flocking to a Titleist convention.
This high-altitude handshake also means American Airlines will be working closely with the PGA of America to offer immersive experiences and special perks for AAdvantage cardholders.
Think VIP hospitality zones, and the chance to trade in your hard-earned miles not just for seat upgrades, but for golf experiences your mates will never shut up about.
“Together with the PGA, we’re looking forward to offering our customers an opportunity to experience golf like never before, whether they’re travelling to the most-talked-about tournaments or getting within feet of their favourite golfers on the course,” said Caroline Clayton, American’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Our AAdvantage® members love these priceless moments and we’re honoured to make them happen.”
The partnership isn’t just a glossy travel brochure either. American Airlines is stepping up as the presenting sponsor of The Secretary’s Cup, a heartwarming 9-hole clash played annually during PGA Championship week.
The event features 12 PGA HOPE teams—golfers who have served in the armed forces and now find therapy, camaraderie, and fresh air through the game.
PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable arm of the PGA of America.
The mission? To introduce golf to Veterans as a way to support their physical, mental, and emotional health. A noble cause if ever there was one, and one American Airlines isn’t taking lightly.
“American Airlines is well established as a global aviation leader, dedicated to providing exceptional service and travel experiences,” said Jeff Price, PGA of America Chief Commercial and Philanthropy Officer.
“As our PGA Members travel the country growing the game and thousands of spectators journey to our Major Championships, American will deliver a world-class experience and ensure they reach their destinations.
American’s tremendous support of PGA HOPE and one of our Association’s most impactful annual events, The Secretary’s Cup, highlights our shared mission to support our nation’s heroes.”
Looking ahead, the golf calendar is already stacked. The Ryder Cup lands at the iconic Bethpage Black in New York from September 23-28, 2025.
Then the 108th PGA Championship tees off at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania from May 11-17, 2026.
In a sport where every detail matters—from the dimple count on a golf ball to the thread count in your club lounge—this partnership promises to add some serious altitude to how the game is experienced.
For fans, players, and Veterans alike, the skies just got a little friendlier.
Now, if they could only do something about that $10 airport sandwich.
