Senior Stars Selected: England Golf Confirms Women’s Squads for European and Home Internationals

In a sport that reveres experience as much as talent, England’s Senior Women’s Golf Team is heading into its biggest tests of the year with a squad that blends steel, class, and a healthy appetite for silverware.

England Golf has officially announced the lineup for the 2025 European Senior Ladies’ Team Championship and the Senior Women’s Home Internationals—and if current form is any indication, this group could cause more damage than a Sunday fourball with free wine at the turn.

Six players—Julia Brook, Sarah Naden, Sally Shayler, Catherine Rawthore, Kerry Smith, and Tracey Williamson—will fly the flag in Spain at Pula Golf Resort from 2–6 September.

The same core, joined by Emma Brown, will then regroup on home soil at Ferndown Golf Club in Dorset from 16–18 September for the Senior Women’s & Men’s Home Internationals. Sophie Beardsall waits in the wings as first reserve.

“I am delighted to have such a strong team to take to our major international championships,” said Team Manager Angela Jones. “It is a great blend of experience and talented, younger seniors. We will be aiming to bring home medals from both events.”

And frankly, they’ve got the form to back that up.

A Closer Look at England’s 2025 Senior Women’s Golf Team:

Julia Brook (Walton Heath, Surrey) is fresh off a third-place finish at the English Senior Women’s Stroke Play and cracked the top five at the Scottish Senior Women’s Open. Cool under pressure, she brings quiet firepower to the team.

Sarah Naden (The Wilmslow, Cheshire) arrives with the confidence of a national champion. She took top honours at the 2025 English Senior Women’s Amateur and followed that with a runner-up finish at the Cheshire Senior Women’s Championship—proof her game travels well across county lines.

Sally Shayler (The Bedfordshire, Bedfordshire) is a serial winner with a flair for match play, having topped stroke play in the English Amateur, won back-to-back Welsh Open Senior Championships, and reached the quarters of the national amateur in 2025. She’s also a seasoned international, having represented England in both major team events over the last two years.

Kerry Smith (Waterlooville, Hampshire) brings pedigree and consistency. She won the 2024 English Senior Women’s Stroke Play, took the 2023 English Amateur title, and has been a mainstay of England’s squad since 2022. Her top-five finish in this year’s Stroke Play confirms her sharpness.

Catherine Rawthore (Sale, Cheshire) is as seasoned as a vintage port and just as potent. With national titles in 2016, 2022, and 2023, a win at the 2025 Cheshire Championship, and seven European appearances under her belt, her experience will be vital in tight matches.

Tracey Williamson (Sheringham, Norfolk) has quietly built one of the most decorated resumes in English senior golf. She won the 2021 Stroke Play, came runner-up in the 2022 Amateur, and has posted consistent top-15 finishes in 2025. She’s also represented England in every major team event since 2022.

Joining them for the Home Internationals is Emma Brown (Malton & Norton, Yorkshire), who finished third at the 2025 Senior Women’s Amateur, reached the semi-finals of the English Amateur, and won the England Senior Women’s Order of Merit. She’s no stranger to the team room, having played in the last three editions of the Home Internationals.

Standing by is Sophie Beardsall (Greetham Valley, Lincolnshire), who has had a standout season with top-five finishes in both the Stroke Play and Amateur, not to mention a gold medal at the 2025 Island Games in Orkney. If called upon, she’ll be more than ready.

With a mix of grit, grace, and a golf bag full of experience, this Senior Women’s Golf Team has the tools to challenge the continent and defend home turf.

The venues are set, the lineups locked in—now it’s up to this band of elite amateurs to turn potential into podium finishes.

One thing’s certain: if fairways are hit and putts drop, you won’t want to bet against them.
