In a significant development for golf education in the UK, Majesticks Golf Club (GC) has announced a major partnership with Complete PE, an interactive Physical Education resource.
This collaboration will see the introduction of the ‘Little Sticks’ programme into over 200 schools starting this autumn, aiming to reach nearly 40,000 students.
The ‘Little Sticks’ initiative, launched at the LIV Golf UK 2023, is designed to unlock the potential of young people through the game of golf.
Leveraging notable players such as Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, and Sam Horsfield as role models, the programme focuses on using golf to instil life skills in children.
Now, with a fully developed curriculum, the programme will be integrated into the PE curriculum from Year 3 onwards.
Lee Westwood, Co-Captain of Majesticks GC, expressed his enthusiasm for the programme’s expansion: “To be able to go from a small pilot programme last year to rolling out to over 200 schools and impacting over 40,000 children in the coming year is incredible.
It highlights the importance of growing the game and the positive reception we’re getting from schools.”
The pilot phase of the Little Sticks programme began with five schools, reaching approximately 70 students.
By early 2024, the programme will have impacted over 500 children, with continued growth anticipated.
Jordan Stephenson, Majesticks GC’s Head of Community and Impact, emphasised the programme’s success: “Our research with Sheffield Hallam University shows that Little Sticks engages a diverse range of young people effectively.
By including Majesticks GC players as role models, we’re offering children the chance to learn from the best and gain valuable life skills.”
The new collaboration will see a bespoke ‘Striking and Aiming’ unit incorporated into the National Curriculum for PE through Complete PE’s platform.
Majesticks GC will fund the programme’s implementation across 200 additional schools, ensuring a diverse range of educational settings are included.
The programme will provide schools with Little Sticks equipment from SNAG Golf, along with training, mentoring, and resources.
Complete PE’s Head of Physical Education, Catherine Fitzpatrick, praised the initiative’s expansion: “The development of Little Sticks from an extra-curricular programme to a part of the Physical Education curriculum is exciting.
The programme’s reach means many children will benefit from learning golf, supported by free training and high-quality equipment.”
In a related event, the Majesticks GC hosted the Little Sticks Festival at St George’s Park during the LIV Golf UK event, engaging over 50 children from various schools and community groups in a day of golf-related activities.
