Luke Donald Returns to The Belfry for Betfred British Masters Ahead of Ryder Cup

The Betfred British Masters is shaping up to be quite the spectacle this year, promising more than just a trophy on the line.

Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald is set to compete in the edition hosted by six-time Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo, taking place at The Belfry from August 21–24.

Donald, the former World Number One and 2023 Ryder Cup-winning captain, is the first player confirmed to tee off on the iconic Brabazon Course.

He’s gearing up for another pivotal season, aiming to lead Team Europe to victory at Bethpage Black in September.

A seven-time DP World Tour winner and a mainstay of European golf for two decades, Donald returns for the second consecutive year to the Betfred British Masters—an important stop on the “Back 9” of the DP World Tour schedule, where Denmark’s Niklas Nørgaard took his first title in England last time around.

Hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, this year’s edition at The Belfry promises an electric atmosphere on a course forever linked to Ryder Cup lore.

After all, The Belfry has welcomed the biennial contest four times before, and Donald knows his way around both team events and solo showdowns.

“The Belfry holds a special place in British golf history, and I’m thrilled to be competing at the Betfred British Masters again,” he said.

“The support from the crowds last year was incredible, and I’m looking forward to another fantastic week.

It’s always a privilege to play in front of home fans, and with the added excitement of this being a Ryder Cup year, it’s going to be a special event.

“This year’s Betfred British Masters is the final counting event in the qualification period for the Ryder Cup, so I will be keeping a keen eye on who will be trying to play their way into the six automatic qualifiers or putting themselves in contention for a pick.”

Tournament host Faldo, a six-time Major Champion, former World Number One, and Ryder Cup Captain, is eager to welcome Donald to his show for the third time:

“Having Luke in the field adds so much to the event,” said Sir Nick. “He’s been an incredible ambassador for European golf, both as a player and a captain, and fans will love seeing him compete at The Belfry.

“It’s a venue that has played a huge role in Ryder Cup history, and as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the historic first European victory over the Brabazon Course, it’s only fitting that Luke is here in the build-up to another big year for him and Team Europe.”

In the eyes of many fans, the Englishman’s participation at The Belfry is a can’t-miss moment.

With a world-class field set to descend on this storied venue, the 2025 Betfred British Masters has all the makings of a tournament to remember—especially with Luke Donald once again in the thick of the action.
