Loch Lomond Whiskies has just pulled off a hole-in-one for both golf aficionados and spirits connoisseurs alike.
In celebration of The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush, Loch Lomond Whiskies is unveiling two irresistible single malts that capture the magic of golf’s oldest Major and the brand’s signature dedication to craftsmanship.
From its longstanding title as “The Spirit of The Open” since 2018, Loch Lomond Whiskies once again teases our taste buds with The Open Course Collection 2025 and The Open Course Special Edition 2025—both shaped by the same spirit of innovation that has made their drams a beloved staple.
The first is a 22-year-old single malt showcasing a distinctive finish in Spanish oak casks, paying tribute to the historic wreck of La Girona in 1588 near Royal Portrush.
Meanwhile, the Special Edition celebrates Tuscan Chianti wine cask influence for an enchanting mix of rich red fruits, honey, and soft oak tannins.
“This longstanding partnership with The R&A and Loch Lomond Whiskies reflects a shared commitment to tradition, quality, and excellence – values that define both the sport of golf, The Open and the art of whisky-making.”
Each bottle emerges from Loch Lomond’s legendary straight-neck stills, delivering trademark notes of fruit, spice, honey, and gentle smoke.
These new releases are more than just a nod to golf’s most storied stage; they’re an invitation to experience the synergy between Scotland’s favourite export and the sport loved by so many worldwide.
“These expressions perfectly capture Loch Lomond’s explorative and innovative spirit,” said Michael Henry, Master Blender of Loch Lomond Whisky.
“The final character of each of these fine single malts is unmistakably Loch Lomond, and the experimentation with Spanish oak and Chianti casks is indicative of our capability to push the boundaries in flavour creation.”
Perfectly timed for the exhilarating action at The 153rd Open, these limited editions serve as a memorable keepsake and a spirited accompaniment while you tune into golf’s biggest stage.
Scottish golf legend Colin Montgomerie, an ambassador for Loch Lomond Whiskies, lent his signature touch to each pack.
“It’s been a pleasure working with Michael once again to create these popular limited-edition expressions which mark another special occasion in the golfing calendar,” added Colin Montgomerie.
“There is a lot of synergy between golf and the art of whisky-making. Both require dedication to the craft, passion, and a willingness to take risks, which Loch Lomond Whiskies do so well.
The ongoing releases of new limited-edition whiskies celebrate this year’s Open venue, and the event’s esteemed legacy in such a wonderful way, and it has been a joy to be a part of the experience once again.”
The R&A is equally delighted to continue this winning collaboration. “We are proud to continue our valued relationship with Loch Lomond Group across The Open and the AIG Women’s Open.
Aligning with partners who share our vision for the championships and for golf to thrive is integral to our success,” said Henry Keeling, Commercial Partnerships Director at The R&A.
“Partnering with Loch Lomond Whiskies to celebrate The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush is another milestone in our storied collaboration.
These two special edition single malts are a tribute to this year’s venue, and a celebration of the rich and historic correlation between golf and whisky – perfectly capturing the spirit of the game and the prestigious history of The Open.
Loch Lomond Whisky is a brand that shares our passion for excellence and tradition, and we look forward to raising a glass to what promises to be an unforgettable Open.”
As if giving us all a reason to celebrate, The Open Course Collection 2025 (RRP £250) and The Open Course Special Edition 2025 (RRP £45) roll out in April 2025.
