LIV’s Lee Westwood, Richard Bland Primed for Senior PGA Championship Win

Narrowly surviving the cut on Friday, LIV’s Lee Westwood surged up the Senior PGA Championship leaderboard on Moving Day after a masterclass performance.

After an early double-bogey to sink his overall score to 2-over par, the Majesticks co-captain saved his tournament by responding with six birdies.

The scoring streak was halted by a fantastic chip shot every so slightly lipped out for a late bogey on the Par 4 17th, but the near-miss was quickly rectified by a short putt for birdie on the final hole.

Westwood would finish the day shooting a 68 with a total score of 4-under par, good for T5, one stroke behind the leaders.

Richard Bland, the reigning champion and preeminent favourite to win the tournament, spent much of Saturday treading water, but remains in contention with a total score of 2-under par and T12 in the standings, but only three strokes behind the leaders. Bland’s title defence will begin tomorrow afternoon.

The two Englishmen will have to overcome top contender Vijay Singh, who put on a vintage performance Friday afternoon, shooting a 68 after opening the round with three straight bogeys.

Fortunately for Westwood, Bland, and the rest of the field, Singh would have run away with the tournament if not for a flurry of missed short putts on Saturday afternoon.

Angel Cabrera, the two-time major championship winner, also figures to be in the mix after a fine Saturday performance, currently sharing the T1 position with three others (Goosen, Caron, and Archer) on the leaderboard.

Cabrera won the first PGA Tour Champions major of the 2025 season, The Tradition, just last week at Greystone.

Conditions on Sunday figure to be much more palatable to the field than Saturdays’ constant gusts of wind, many of which came in at over 25mph.

Follow Lee Westwood and Richard Bland as they both look for their first win of the 2025 season tomorrow. Television coverage will start at 3:00 PM ET on NBC with play concluding at approximately 6:00 PM ET.
