LIV Greenbrier Preview: Bryson DeChambeau, Crushers GC, Look to Lock Down First Place in West Virginia

After making history last season scoring 58 on championship Sunday on The Old White Course at The Greenbrier, Bryson DeChambeau will make his much-anticipated return to West Virginia in an attempt to break his course record!

Last season’s LIV Golf team champions, Crushers GC, sit firmly in first place with one regular event left before the Team Championship finale in Dallas.

Does Bryson and his Crushers have what it take to sweep Greenbrier and make history in the process?

What To Watch For

Bryson’s First Individual Championship of the 2024 Season

It’s nearly impossible to believe that DeChambeau has yet to win on the LIV Tour this season.

His victory at the 2024 US Open was one of the most shocking, clutch, and entertaining major victories we’ve seen in a long time.

His second-place finish at the PGA Championship and his phenomenal Day One at The Masters have cemented his spot as one of the best golfers in the world this season.

After being held out of the Olympics due to official ranking issues, there’s no doubt that Bryson absolutely wants another victory before season’s end.

The Return of Charles Howell III

The Crushers get much-needed reinforcements at the most opportune time! Crushers GC announced over the weekend that Charles Howell III will make his triumphant return to LIV at The Greenbrier!

While John Catlin has been filling in admirably, helping the Crushers to three podium finishes since Charles’ injury, the Crushers haven’t been able to get that big win since the season’s fourth event in Hong Kong.

Howell III will provide a much-needed boost that makes the Crushers the favourite this weekend over likely contenders per my earlier Fantasy Rankings: Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII and Joaquin Neimann’s Torque GC.

A Crushers GC Victory

The Crushers sit fifteen and half points above second place Legion XIII, who have secured three team championships since the Crushers’ last in Hong Kong.

The other anticipated contender, Torque GC, won Greenbrier last season with a LIV-record 49-under team par.

The team win of course being overshadowed by Bryson’s 58. Torque remains a formidable opponent despite not winning as a team thus far for 2024.

A win for the Crushers would almost guarantee them the first seed going into Dallas, despite the fact that Chicago remains on the schedule.

Big News Around LIV

Graeme McDowell Has Been Fined and Suspended by LIV

It was reported on Sunday that Smash GC player Graeme McDowell had tested positive for a banned substance, was fined $125,000, and will be suspended for LIV Greenbrier.

Smash GC Captain Brooks Koepka will now have to replace McDowell, which may be a blessing in disguise for Smash who peaked rather early this season with their lone win coming at the second event in 2024, winning in Las Vegas.

Peter Uihlein Wins Asian Tour International Series England

Peter Uihlein Wins Asian Tour International Series England

Decked out in his RangeGoats GC gear, Peter Uihlein hoisted a shiny new trophy on Sunday after a monster weekend in Surrey, England after a successful campaign on The Asian Tour.

On his way to victory, Uihlein set a course record 61 on Friday and capped off the weekend with a 63 on championship Sunday.

The long driver finished an incredible 20-under par, outmanoeuvring the man he was traded for, Harold Varner III, as well as several other LIV golfers who performed admirably, most notably Caleb Surrat who had a T2 finish.

LIV Greenbrier kicks off at 1:15 PM ET on Friday, August 16. Tune in to see Bryson take another shot at history!
