Last season Bryson DeChambeau made LIV history with a record 58 on The Old White Course at The Greenbrier.
It was one of the most remarkable individual efforts in recent history, and fans are expecting more from the two-time U.S. Open winner!
Unlike JCB and Andalucia, The Old White is considered one of the easier courses on LIV’s schedule.
Last season, Torque GC won with an astounding 49-under par! Fans and fantasy players should expect individual scores to be high.
In 2023, the field featured twenty-two golfers who finished under par in the double digits, lead by Bryson DeChambeau winning with an unbelievable 23-under after one of the most incredible weekends in LIV history.
Country roads take us home to West Virginia, and back to LIV Fantasy! We’ll examine our top two picks for captain, five for non-captain, and three for team finishes!
Picks for Captain
- Bryson DeChambeau – The Old White Course at The Greenbrier was host to LIV Golf history last season. DeChambeau’s 58 on Championship Sunday was one of the signature events in LIV’s short history. DeChambeau will do everything in his power to break his own record.
- Jon Rahm – This summer’s version of Jon Rahm is the version we all expected when Rahm made the jump to LIV last year. His win at JCB paired with fine showings at The Open and recently The Paris Olympics means Rahm has more momentum than any other LIV captain coming into Greenbrier.
Picks for Non-Captain
- Tyrrell Hatton – Hatton remains the number one fantasy option for a fourth week in a row. The Mad Hatter let a sure victory slip through his fingers during the back nine of LIV UK, ceding the top spot to Legion XIII teammate Jon Rahm. Despite this, Hatton remains the top fantasy option for non-captains, as he will certainly be in contention to capture his second win of the season and lead Legion XIII to a fifth win.
- Richard Bland – Bland’s third-place finish at Greenbrier last season coupled with his recent T14 finish at JCB Golf and Country Club makes him a prime fantasy option. Bland’s is in a renaissance season that keeps marching on, don’t sleep on this year’s best feel-good story to win it all!
- Paul Casey – Casey’s 10-under par at JCB was good for a fifth-place finish and ultimately helped the Crushers secure another podium finish. While likely not a threat to challenge for an outright individual championship, Casey is always in the mix, securing three Top 10 finishes in his last four outings. Casey currently sits at 9th place overall in the individual standings for 2024. The Englishman was one of the most visibly frustrated golfers with regards to not being able to represent his country at The Olympics. That energy, if channelled positively, will turn into extra motivation to make a run at The Greenbrier.
- Matthew Wolff – Wolff has been the RangeGoats’ best player all season and has finished in the top twenty – four times in a row. The move to Bubba’s RangeGoats has paid great personal dividends for the young Wolff, and there’s a better than decent chance he will be in the mix to win it all after coming in 5th place at Greenbrier in 2023 when he was still a member of Smash GC.
- David Puig – Like Bland, Puig’s past performance at Greenbrier last season earned him a 4th Place Overall finish. This, paired with his recent T11 showing at JCB predicts success. While a member of Torque GC in 2023, Puig was instrumental in leading his former squad to the team championship at Greenbrier. The final score, an amazing 49-under, was secured in part by that top-five finish by Puig.
Picks for Team
- Legion XIII – Apparently two golfers can win a four-man team championship. That’s exactly what happened at JCB with Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton finishing in first and tied for second place, respectively. Greenbrier is one of the easiest courses on LIV so it should favor the games of Surratt and Vincent and help them avoid multiple days over par.
- Crushers GC – The Crushers have four straight top five finishes, a feat which no other team can claim. Paul Casey was in excellent form at JCB, but Lahiri and Catlin had disappointing finishes. Crushers remain an excellent option as DeChambeau is having a great second half of the season. If Charles Howell III is 100% healthy, consider flipping the Crushers and Legion XIII in the standings.
- Torque GC – Last year’s champions at Greenbrier, Torque’s individual players are in mid-level form minus Joaquin Neimann who had a T2 finish at JCB. Mito Pereira, the low man on Torque GC came in 2nd place overall at Greenbrier in 2023. While his form isn’t currently the greatest, having a friendly and familiar course should boost Torque’s overall team score.
Remember to set your fantasy roster before Friday morning when LIV returns to action at The Greenbrier!
