Why The L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS Might Put Traditional Putters on the Endangered List

The L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS has arrived, and it’s already threatening to make traditional putters look about as useful as a hickory shaft in a hurricane.

Known for turning the dark art of putting into something bordering on science, L.A.B. Golf has now married its famous Lie Angle Balance technology with a heel-shafted design—a union that took years of tinkering, testing, and probably more than a few muttered expletives.

“Lie Angle Balance is so much more than where the shaft goes into the head, and golfers are going to feel that when they try OZ.1i HS,” said L.A.B. Golf CEO Sam Hahn. “It looks a lot like a traditional putter, but it performs like a L.A.B. This is a huge step toward our mission of helping every golfer putt better.”

A Heel-Shafted Twist on Balance

At first glance, the L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS looks like something you might have seen in your grandfather’s bag—only this one comes with a degree in physics.

Built on the same aluminium body and fly-milled stainless steel insert as its sibling, the OZ.1i, the HS version introduces a proprietary aluminium riser that keeps Lie Angle Balance intact.

This isn’t just a cosmetic tweak. The riser comes in ten different configurations, ranging from 65 to 74 degrees, letting golfers dial in their preferred lie angle without losing the L.A.B. feel.

“Designing a heel-shafted putter that stays balanced to the lie angle presented us with a unique challenge,” said Brian Parks, vice president of engineering. “The result is our custom, proprietary aluminium riser, a key feature of the OZ.1i HS that lets us offer multiple lie angles without compromising the signature feel and balance golfers expect from every L.A.B. putter.”

Built for the Player, Not the Shelf

Customisation has become a hallmark of L.A.B. Golf, and the OZ.1i HS doesn’t disappoint. The Custom version allows golfers to play the role of mad scientist, choosing everything from lie angle and shaft lean to head weight, grip, and even riser colour.

If you want a putter that feels like it was built for you, it’s because it quite literally was.

And lest you think this is all smoke and mirrors, each L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS is hand-balanced and assembled, passing through as many as 10 stages of craftsmanship before it ever sniffs a golf bag. That’s not mass production; that’s artistry with a torque wrench.

Price Tag and Availability

Golfers can get their hands on the OZ.1i HS today through L.A.B. Golf’s official site and authorised retailers.

The Stock model comes in at $499, while the fully Custom build starts at $599—about the cost of a weekend away, but infinitely better for your putting average.

If putting has always felt like a bad relationship—frustrating, streaky, and destined for heartbreak—the L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS might just be the counsellor you’ve been waiting for.
