Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen Wins Danish Golf Challenge With Final-Hole Birdie

In a finish worthy of a Danish fairytale—complete with tension, twists, and one nervy putt on the final green—Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen birdied the last hole at Bogense Golf Club to capture his second HotelPlanner Tour title, this time at the Danish Golf Challenge.

And what a way to do it.

Trailing by three heading into Sunday’s finale, Jonathan Gøth-Rasmussen summoned something special down the stretch, carding a five-under 67 to edge Scotland’s Calum Fyfe by a single stroke.

That put the 27-year-old Dane at 19 under par for the tournament, after earlier rounds of 66, 70, and 66.

“It feels very nice. It was a tough grind out there today and I am really pleased about getting it done,” said Gøth-Rasmussen, sounding as relieved as a man who’s just spotted land after paddling through a sea of bogeys.

His Sunday charge featured three birdies on the front nine to reel in Fyfe, who had stubbornly clung to the lead for three straight rounds.

On the inward stretch, Gøth-Rasmussen capitalised with birdies on the 12th and 14th—stretching ahead by two—before Fyfe clawed one back at 17 to keep the drama alive.

With both men on the green at the 72nd hole, it came down to one putt.

“I was most proud of my putt on 18,” Gøth-Rasmussen admitted. “I played really well all day and stayed present, in the moment, and managed to hit some quality shots.”

There’s present, and then there’s present with a putter in hand, staring down a slick birdie attempt on the final hole. For a moment, it looked like he might leave it short.

“It was a tricky putt because it was downhill after the hole and I didn’t want to have a three footer coming back, so I had to sneak it in there,” he explained. “I thought it was short, but it just dropped.”

Sneak it in he did. And with that, a second HotelPlanner Tour trophy was his—just a year on from his maiden win in Cadiz.

Of course, it wasn’t just a two-horse race. Pressure came from all directions. Ireland’s Liam Nolan and France’s Julien Sale applied the heat, and Sweden’s Christofer Blomstrand surged late to finish at 15 under.

But Gøth-Rasmussen, steady and calculating, knew exactly where he stood as he made the turn.

“I was keeping up to date with the leaderboard and I knew I could play the par fives on the back nine well,” he said. “When I saw I was leading I knew I had to take care of those and see where it would take me.”

The answer? The winner’s circle—and a warm embrace from his family, who followed him every step of the way in Bogense. No doubt his father, Jacob Rasmussen—a former HotelPlanner Tour winner himself—would’ve been proud.

“It was great having my family here, they were cheering me on all the way around,” said Gøth-Rasmussen.

“I’ve had a really rough start to the year, so it was good to get going and I am looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Calum Fyfe may have come up short, but his solo second finish at 18 under proves he’s knocking loudly on the winner’s door. Behind him, Nolan (-16) and Blomstrand (-15) rounded out a leaderboard packed with promise.

As for Gøth-Rasmussen, his confidence is surging. And with the HotelPlanner Tour heading next to the Challenge de Cadiz at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri from May 29 to June 1, don’t bet against the Dane going back-to-back in Spain.

After all, lightning has struck there once before.
