Joaquin Niemann took a two-shot advantage into Sunday’s final hole, outdueling Bryson DeChambeau who started the finale with the lead.
While DeChambeau couldn’t defend his two-shot cushion, Niemann took advantage of the generous Mexico City course, shooting a 6-under 65, securing Joaco’s third individual victory of 2025, tied Brooks Koepka for most career victories with 5.
Mexico City had everything a golf fan could ask for: a trio of superstars in the lead group on Championship Sunday featuring Bryson DeChambeau, Cam Smith, and Joaquin Niemann.
There were eagles galore, insane 400+ yard drives that quickly became the standard, an incredible final round 61 by a surprise player, and compelling individuals and teams moving up and down the leaderboard until the very end!
The Stars Come Out to Shine in Mexico City
Entering Sunday, the Top 10 was filled out with familiar names and fan favourites such as DeChambeau, Smith, Niemann, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, and Bubba Watson.
Mexico City’s drivable Par 4’s and relatively easy Par 5’s separated the best putters and long drivers from the rest of the field.
It was no surprise that the lead group consisted of DeChambeau, Smith, and Niemann, all of whom can launch the ball tremendous distances and make jaw dropping long putts.
All in all, it was a pretty good day for the 26-year-old Niemann, LIV Golf’s youngest captain.
“Pretty hard to make it more special than this moment right now,” Niemann said while drenched in celebratory champagne on the 18th green at Club de Golf Chapultepec.
“It’s special to be up there with Brooks for most wins. It’s just been three years since I joined here on LIV, and I feel like it’s a special place now for me to be here.”
Lucas Herbert’s Unbelievable Day
Starting off Sunday with a two-day score of 3-under par, Lucas Herbert had a less than 1% chance of winning LIV Mexico City.
Herbert had the best day of the entire field, shooting an incredible 10-under 61, and in the process, propelled Ripper into 2nd place when the rest of the team didn’t seem up to the challenge of competing for the team championship.
Herbert’s perfect day included eight birdies, one eagle, and a chance to go into the 50’s with two birdie putt chances on the last two holes.
Dustin Johnson Makes Late Push and Bubba Watson’s First Top 10 Finish
DJ finished the day with a score of 9-under par, finishing T7. Johnson, who finished Friday treading water with a score of even par while watching his fellow captains leapfrog him in the standings, made an incredible two-day push culminating in his best finish since Singapore.
The 4 Aces captain kept his team in contention for a podium finish for the entire day until Niemann’s birdie on 18, giving Torque the 3rd place finish.
Ultimately coming in 4th place overall, it’s become quite clear that DJ’s 4 Aces have made drastic improvements and proper adjustments, leaving no doubt they have moved on from a hugely disappointing 2024.
Meanwhile, Bubba Watson rode the momentum of a very successful Augusta campaign and secured his best-ever finish on LIV by shooting a 66, 71, and 67 over the weekend. Bubba’s final placement was T7 with a 9-under par total score.
Mexico City Brings Out the Long Drivers
The extreme elevation at Club de Golf Chapultepec made for some incredible drives throughout the weekend, the likes of which we have never seen.
Rubber Match: Legion XIII vs. Ripper

Sunday’s finale started off with Ripper, the 2024 Team Championship winners, squaring off against Bryson’s Crushers, the 2023 winners.
All was looking well for the two elite squads for the first few holes before the wheels came off: first for Bryson’s Crushers, then halfway through for Smith’s Ripper.
Bryson was able to hold par for Sunday, but unfortunately all three of his teammates finished the day over par.
While Jon Rahm was dormant for the majority of Championship Sunday, his teammates, including LIV’s youngest two players in Caleb Surratt and Tom McKibbin came up clutch, seemingly scoring at will down the stretch.
“Proud of everybody here,” Rahm said. “To hear that all four of us shot under par is not easy. It’s a hard golf course.”
While the Crushers went into a tailspin on the back nine, Ripper made an incredible comeback thanks almost solely to the heroics of Lucas Herbert.
Tied all the way until the last two holes, Rahm and Hatton missed makeable birdie putts on the 18th which would have put Legion XIII two ahead at 29-under par. Instead, Caleb Surratt saved the day with a birdie putt on the drivable Par 4 2nd.
It was the second team win of the season for the incredibly successful expansion team.
