At the picturesque DLF Golf and Country Club, Joaquin Niemann, Carlos Ortiz, and Sebastian Munoz—key members of the Torque GC team—gathered for their media session ahead of Thursday’s opening round.
As part of LIV Golf, they’re poised to kick off the first event of The International Series 2025 season in India.
Carlos Ortiz kicked things off with his impressions of the venue. “First of all it was a really impressive the golf course.
I mean, it’s unbelievable. It’s immaculate. So, we’re really happy to be here and excited about what the week is going to bring on and,” he shared enthusiastically.
When pressed about the course’s difficulty, Carlos remained candid. “I mean, it can be difficult or if you play well and it can be easy if you play easy.
So far, I’ve only seen nine holes. I heard the back nine is a little bit more challenging and but it is in great condition, so there’s no excuses.
You have to hit the ball well, and that’s going to be separating the good player from the others.”
Reflecting on his successful start last year, Carlos was confident about their chances. “I think every time we play, we try to win.
It awesome to do it here and, you know, I think it’s also a way to look at a venue that might be on the schedule next year for us. So it’s awesome to see this quality being considered for them.”
The camaraderie among the teammates was evident as Carlos spoke about travelling together. “Yeah, it’s great to have these guys. We really enjoy travelling and playing together, so it always makes it easy when you travel around the world with good friends.”
Turning the conversation to Joaquin Niemann, who clinched The International Series Rankings last year and secured a significant win in Saudi Arabia, he expressed his readiness for the new season.
“Yes, finishing the year strong in Riyadh was fantastic. Those extra points helped me win the rankings. This course will be a good challenge to prepare for the season ahead.”
Joaquin also shared his positive first impressions of India. “I’ve been loving it. Like Carlos said, the hospitality has been incredible. They’ve been welcoming, and it’s been a great experience so far.”
Discussing his role as team captain, Joaquin remarked, “It’s been a fun, new challenge. It’s also easier when you have great teammates who push you to get better.”
His goals for 2025 are ambitious yet clear. “As a team, we want to win the season. Last year, we were consistently in the top five or six, but we didn’t finish as strongly as we wanted. To compete at the top, you need wins. That’s our focus this year.”
On the growth of The International Series and the participation of stars like Bryson DeChambeau, Joaquin noted, “The International Series is great.
The fields keep getting better, and it’s exciting to play at new venues around the world. It’s a fantastic opportunity to compete with top players like Bryson and showcase what we can do on the global stage.”
Sebastian Munoz, also experiencing India for the first time, shared his awe of the venue.
“It’s been a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t expecting this level of beauty, especially the stunning views of the course with the buildings nearby. The quality of the course is impressive—it’s a great venue to play golf.”
Reflecting on his previous season, Sebastian was both proud and motivated. “It was consistent, but I feel like I could never quite finish three good rounds in a row. My scores helped the team a lot, but I wasn’t able to reach the low numbers I wanted. Still, finishing 23rd overall was encouraging, and I’m working to improve this season.”
He also praised the partnership between the Asian Tour and LIV Golf. “I think it’s fantastic.
The collaboration has elevated the tournaments and brought in top players like Bryson playing on The International Series. It’s helping the Asian Tour grow and attract more attention globally.”
Carlos emphasised the importance of a strong start to the season. “A strong start is crucial.
It reflects the work you’ve done in the offseason and sets the tone for the year. Competing here helps us gauge where our game is as we prepare for the LIV Golf season.”
When discussing Bryson DeChambeau’s impact on golf, Carlos was unequivocal. “Bryson is changing how people view golf. He’s a pioneer, much like Tiger Woods was.
His power and unique approach to the game have drawn new fans, which is great for the sport.”
Finally, addressing his motivation to join LIV Golf, Joaquin stated, “It was an easy decision.
We were already a team on the PGA Tour, and the team format at LIV Golf felt like a natural fit. It’s been an exciting journey, and I’m grateful to be part of it.”
Armed with unfiltered grit and a touch of flair, Joaquin Niemann, Carlos Ortiz, and Sebastian Munoz are ready to light up the DLF Golf and Country Club.
These guys aren’t just here to play—they’re bringing a mix of dedication, teamwork, and that unmistakable competitive fire.
