How to Qualify for The Open 2025: International Series Macau Offers Pathway

In a landmark twist for golf, the International Series Macau Open—presented by Wynn—has now earned its place as a qualifying pathway event for The Open.

From March 20 to 23 at the Macau Golf and Country Club, players won’t just be chasing prize money; they’ll be battling for one of three coveted spots that could launch them into the fray at golf’s fourth major.

The R&A has confirmed that the second edition of this tournament joins an elite group—15 events in 11 countries—that make up the Open Qualifying Series for 2025.

The top three non-exempt finishers will earn their chance to vie for the storied Claret Jug at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland from July 17 to 20. It’s a career-making opportunity that’s bound to add extra fire to every swing.

This is a breakthrough moment for the International Series—a genuine pathway to the very pinnacle of professional golf.

And it’s not just about landing a spot in The Open; a ranking system spread over 10 Asian Tour events now swings open the door to the LIV Golf League as well.

It’s a double whammy that’s got players grinning from tee to green, soaking in every bit of this rare opportunity.

Commissioner and CEO of the Asian Tour, Cho Minn Thant, summed up the excitement, saying, “We thank The R&A for our continued involvement with the Open Qualifying Series, and the ongoing strengthening of our partnership.

This will give our members a great chance of playing in The Open, which is the goal of every professional golfer.”

Echoing that sentiment, Rahul Singh, Head of The International Series, remarked, “This is a significant moment for The International Series, and Macau, with our tournament being identified as a viable route to this year’s edition of The Open.

“We have always strived to offer opportunity to players, through our pathway onto the LIV Golf League, and this announcement aligns with our values.

The decision gives added incentive to the players, and further demonstrates the growing strength of our brand and the tournament, and golf in the Asian region.”

The International Series Macau Open is one of three marquee events on the Asian Tour that offer this golden ticket to The Open—joining forces with the New Zealand Open presented by Sky Sport and the KOLON Korea Open.

Last year in Macau, the tension was palpable as John Catlin narrowly edged out Spanish contender David Puig in an unforgettable playoff.

Catlin’s remarkable third-round 59 set a high bar, while Puig’s spirited final round of 60 served as a vivid reminder that every stroke counts in golf. In this sport, nothing is decided until that final putt finds its mark.

For die-hard golf enthusiasts and fans of an underdog tale alike, this year’s International Series Macau Open is not one to miss.

With high stakes, top-tier competitors, and a coveted golden ticket to The Open in play, prepare for an unforgettable blend of drama, tension, and breathtaking moments on Macau’s vibrant greens.
