Hamish Brown Eager for Newmachar Challenge at Scottish Links

Hamish Brown from Denmark during day three of the Irish Challenge at The K Club

Right, let’s spin a yarn about Hamish Brown, who’s traipsing back to the bonny Scottish lands for the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge at Newmachar Golf Club.

Now, Hamish isn’t just any Dane. With a dad hailing from Blairgowrie, a professional swinger of clubs, Scotland’s practically his wee playground.

Hamish, standing on the tee, looks around and says, “There’s no place like Scotland for golf. It’s like coming home to where it all began.”

Indeed, for Hamish, Scotland isn’t just where golf started; it’s where he reconnects with his roots.

Now, onto the battlefield—Newmachar’s Hawkshill course. It’s not your typical stroll through the park.

We’re talking about a course that’s more linksy than a sausage factory. With revetted bunkers that could trap an army, and fairways and greens harder than my mother-in-law’s heart, it’s a place where the wind doesn’t just mess up your hair; it messes with your game.

“This course is a rare beast,” Hamish notes, a hint of thrill in his voice. “You’ve got to be sharp off the tee, and let’s not even start on the par fives—there are only two, so no gifts here.”

At the tender age of 25, our lad Hamish has already bagged his first win at the Kaskáda Golf Challenge and is sitting pretty at fifth in the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

That’s a far cry from his 83rd place last year, which, by the way, he’s turned around with some serious time at the range working on his tee shots and putting.

“Last season was a bit of a bogey,” he chuckles, “but I’ve dialled in my tee game and the flat stick is behaving. It’s all about putting in the work.”

With the season’s end looming, the stakes are higher than a giraffe’s eye. Hamish is gunning for the top 20 to snag a ticket to the DP World Tour.

“It’s all about the effort you control,” he says, squinting into the Scottish mist. “And believe me, I’m not lifting my foot off the pedal until I hit that points target.”

As dawn breaks over Aberdeen, the stage is set. With heavy hitters like John Parry and Joel Moscatel in the mix, not to mention local lad Bradley Neil, the air’s buzzing with anticipation.

Hamish tees off at 8:00 am, following the crack of dawn’s 7:30 am start.

So grab your caps and hold onto your hats—this Newmachar Challenge at Scottish Links is going to be one for the books.
