Well, If like me you thought TPC Boston was going to be a beast this week, you didn’t reckon with Haeran Ryu.
On Day Two of the FM Championship, this wizard with a wedge turned the whole course into her personal spellbook, dazzling us with a bewitching 62.
It’s not just a great score on a tough day; it’s a piece of FM Championship lore now.
Ryu, only in her second year on the LPGA Tour, turned the greens into her stage and gave a performance that’ll be talked about for ages.
Starting off steady with three pars, she then went on a birdie spree that must’ve left the birds themselves dizzy.
Four straight birdies from the fourth hole sent a clear message: Ryu was in it to win it.
By the end of the front nine, she was already dancing at seven under for the tournament, then just kept the hits coming.
Her precision with every club was nothing short of miraculous, especially when you consider how unforgiving those Boston greens can be.
Ryu wrapped up her day at a mind-boggling 13-under total, saying with a cheeky grin, “I just felt like I couldn’t miss today, and thankfully, I mostly didn’t!”
Hot on her heels, though a good bit back, are Robyn Choi and Yealimi Noh, tied at seven under.
Choi, facing her first real test among the top ranks, shared a hopeful thought, saying, “It’s all about the experience, right? Being up here with the best, maybe it’ll teach me a trick or two.”
Not to be overlooked, Bianca Pagdanganan also made some afternoon noise with a spectacular 66, joining the trio in second place despite a wild tee shot on the 18th that’ll make for a great story later.
As we gear up for the weekend, it’s anybody’s game still—well, if anyone can catch Ryu, that is.
TPC Boston has already shown it has teeth, but Ryu, armed with a putter that might as well be a magic wand, has tamed the beast for now.
