Glencor Golf Holidays Extends Long-Standing Partnership with York Union of Golf Clubs

If there’s one thing Glencor Golf Holidays knows better than booking you a trip to somewhere warm, it’s how to give back to the game that’s given them so much grief—er, joy—over the years.

The York-based golf travel specialist has just inked a 12-month sponsorship deal with the York Union of Golf Clubs, renewing a relationship that’s been simmering for more than a quarter of a century.

For Glencor director Glen Renton, this isn’t just a corporate handshake—it’s personal. “I have been a member of various clubs in the York Union since around 1999,” Renton said, recalling a career that began as a Junior Member at Forest of Galtres, meandered through Easingwold, and now resides happily at York Golf Club.

“It’s great to put back into the grassroots and help support the York Union. They do great work for Junior Golf, which is a cause we are passionate about.

The Union is run by an unpaid team of volunteers and rely on sponsorship to help provide the great events all golfers in York have come to know and enjoy.”

Local Support with a Big Swing

Steve Wood, President of the York Union, was equally enthusiastic about the partnership. “We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with Glencor Golf Holidays,” he said. “It is great to have the support of a local business, especially one that is already involved with golf. We are extremely grateful for their support and look forward to a productive partnership!”

A History Written in Scorecards

Renton’s own York Union playing history includes the Cross Trophies, Team Championships, and the York Union Open Championship—though he’s the first to admit there’s no trophy room at home in danger of collapsing under the weight of silverware. “Sadly, no noticeable successes to speak of,” he quipped.

Formed in 1931, the York Union of Golf Clubs first united York, Fulford, Heworth, and Hob Moor. Nearly a century later, the Union remains the beating heart of the local amateur scene.

For Renton, this sponsorship is less about logos on banners and more about ensuring the next generation of golfers have the same opportunities he had—minus the missed putts.

“Supporting the York Union of Golf Clubs is our way of giving something back to the game and the community that’s been such a big part of our journey,” he said. “We want to help more people get involved, improve their game, and just enjoy the sport.”

From the fairways of York to far-flung destinations booked through Glencor Golf Holidays, it’s a partnership that blends local loyalty with a global golfing passion.

And I do have to say: they’re not just putting money in; they’re putting it where it counts — into the people and places that keep the game alive.
