George Coetzee Clinches 15th Sunshine Tour Title with 19-Under Victory at Serengeti Playoffs

In a brilliant display of skill and character, George Coetzee triumphed in the Courier Guy Playoffs—claiming the 15th title of his Sunshine Tour career with a three‐stroke win at the Serengeti Playoffs on Sunday.

This victory not only cements his legacy but also marks the first win of the new Courier Guy Playoffs Series.

Coetzee’s round was a masterclass in controlled aggression. He fired a solid 69 at Serengeti Estates to finish at 19 under par, edging Daniel van Tonder—who recorded a final round of 69—to second place at 16 under par.

After starting the day with a series of regular pars through the first seven holes, Coetzee ignited his round with an eagle on the par-five eighth. Two birdies and just one bogey later, his momentum was unstoppable.

Reflecting on his performance, Coetzee noted, “It was a very busy day for me in my head. I tried to stay in my lane and do what I have to do, follow my routines and to follow my gameplan to play as well as possible.

Things worked today, but you never know. It took me like five holes just to feel like it was me playing, and around the middle of the round it started to feel a little better.”

For a player returning from injury and celebrating the recent birth of his child, this win carries extra meaning. He shared with heartfelt sincerity,

“You want to do stuff that your kids can be proud of, like I am proud of my parents and I want my kid to be proud of me.”

This win has catapulted Coetzee 48 places up the Order of Merit delivered by The Courier Guy, moving him into the 28th spot and ensuring his place at next week’s season-ending DNi Tour Championship presented by RMB at Blair Atholl Golf and Equestrian Estate.

The tournament, set to conclude the 2024/2025 season, will see the top 50 players from the Order of Merit battling for ultimate bragging rights.

While Coetzee’s performance shone brightly, the competition was fierce. Daniel van Tonder—who entered the event as the current leader on the Order of Merit delivered by The Courier Guy—pushed hard on the final day but couldn’t match Coetzee’s relentless drive.

Stefan Wears-Taylor’s impressive eight-under-par 64 earned him a share of third place on 14-under, alongside emerging talents Kyle de Beer (67) and Stals Swart (70).

Meanwhile, Altin van der Merwe’s steady play, culminating in a 68, secured him a share of sixth on 13-
