Friday’s second round of The Amundi Evian Championship came to an abrupt halt due to dangerous weather.

With storms rolling in, play was suspended at 4:23 p.m. local time, and by 6:09 p.m., the round was officially called for the day.

The tournament’s resumption is set for Saturday, July 13, at 7:30 a.m. local time, with Round 3 expected to kick off around 10:45 a.m. local time.

Furue Shines Before Suspension

Japan’s Ayaka Furue is currently leading the field at an impressive 12-under par, three strokes ahead of her nearest rivals.

Furue, maintaining a flawless 6-under par for her second round, has yet to finish five holes. Her performance has been nothing short of spectacular, with a bogey-free 31 holes so far.

Chasing the Leader

Stephanie Kyriacou and Haeran Ryu are both hot on Furue’s heels at nine-under par for the tournament.

Kyriacou, having completed 16 holes, and Ryu, through 11, will return on Saturday to finish their second rounds.

Meanwhile, Angela Stanford, the 2018 Amundi Evian Championship winner, shares fourth place at eight-under-par with Patty Tavatanakit, another major champion. Stanford has 12 holes in the books, and Tavatanakit has 15.

Morning Wave Shakers

The morning group managed to wrap up their rounds before the suspension, and several players surged into the top-10.

LPGA Tour rookie Yu Jin Sung delivered a dazzling second-round 63, jumping from a tie for 75th to sixth place.

Sung’s round included an eagle, seven birdies, and a lone bogey, marking the lowest round of her career.

She is the third player in the tournament’s history to shoot 63 or lower in the second round, following Jeongeun Lee6 and Ariya Jutanugarn in 2021.

Reflecting on her performance, Sung said, “I think the course is pretty familiar to courses I’ve played in Korea.

It’s a bit tougher here than in Korea, but there are many similarities so I think Korean players may have an advantage in attacking the pins.

Even if you hit it well, the ball tends to bounce out quite a bit so it’s important to keep your mental game in and focus when that happens.”

Notable Movers

Veteran Mi Hyang Lee shot a 5-under 66 to vault from 21st to a tie for sixth. Meanwhile, Georgia Hall, Narin An, and Jin Young Ko each posted 67s to sit tied for 10th.

The Path Forward

A total of 66 players will return on Saturday to complete their second rounds, with the cut to the top 65 and ties to be made afterwards.

As the second round resumes at 7:30 a.m., players will have access to practice facilities starting at 5:30 a.m.

The third round is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:45 a.m., promising an action-packed day at The Amundi Evian Championship.
