From Football to Golf: Westwood and Garcia Headline the Reignwood Icons 2025

Reignwood Icons of Football is about to turn the sporting world on its head, as football’s legendary names trade their studs for spikes this March 1-2, 2025, at the esteemed Robinswood Golf Course in Reignwood Park, Bangkok.

If you’ve ever wondered how some of the greatest players on earth handle a different kind of “pitch,” well, prepare for two days of pure, internationally televised spectacle.

In an Asian first, Team England—captained by none other than Ryder Cup stalwart Lee Westwood—will meet Sergio Garcia’s Team World in a matchplay golf showdown that promises to be part rivalry, part reunion, and all drama.

This isn’t your garden-variety-friendly. Every drive, chip, and putt will come from icons who’ve conquered the likes of the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and top-tier international competitions.

Now, they’re aiming for glory on a sprawling 10-hole battlefield, forging unexpected alliances while reigniting old feuds in the fresh air of Bangkok.

The Teams

Team England

  • Captain: Lee Westwood
  • Jimmy Bullard, Robbie Fowler, Joe Hart, Paul Ince, Phil Jagielka, Jermaine Jenas, Phil Jones, Paul Scholes, Lee Sharpe, Teddy Sheringham, John Terry, Theo Walcott

Lee Westwood, Captain of Team England: This is shaping up to be the most exciting Icons Series event ever.

We’ve got a seriously strong England team, packed with competitive footballing icons who are ready to take on Team World.

My team is ready and I can’t wait for them to tee off in Bangkok and bring home the Icons Trophy.”

Sergio Garcia, Captain of Team World: “This is a tournament like no other. It’s an honour to captain Team World and compete alongside some of the biggest names in football history.

I have been a teammate of Lee Westwood in the past but there won’t be any friendly behaviour this week.

These players are proven winners, and we’re ready to take on England in what promises to be an unforgettable event.”

The $10M Swing: Golf’s Most Expensive Hole

On Saturday, each of these Icons will face the now-famous 12th at Robinswood—just 170 yards of fairway that could unlock a jaw-dropping $10 million jackpot if anyone nails a hole-in-one.

Dubbed “The Richest Hole in Golf,” it’s a moment that could flip fortunes faster than a 90th-minute penalty kick. A portion of any winnings will help worthy causes, including the Icons Foundation’s support of MND.

And if you’re cheering from the UK, you can place a free guess on which Icon might pull off the shot of a lifetime.

Thomas Brookes, CEO of Icons Series: “The Reignwood Icons of Football is redefining what it means to blend sports, entertainment, and fan engagement.

Bringing this event to Bangkok is a landmark moment for the Icons Series – the stage is set for an unforgettable showdown watched all over the world.”

Ms. Woraphanit Ruayrungruang, CEO of Reignwood Group: “Reignwood Park is proud to host this prestigious event, reinforcing Thailand’s reputation as a world-class sports tourism destination.

We are bringing together legendary footballers and sports enthusiasts from around the world for an event that will showcase the very best of competition and camaraderie.”
