Fitzpatrick Returns to Where It All Began — The British Masters

Matt Fitzpatrick, the steely-eyed Englishman with a U.S. Open title and an iron will to match, is heading back to familiar territory this summer.

The 30-year-old has confirmed his return to the Betfred British Masters, hosted by none other than Sir Nick Faldo, as the DP World Tour rolls into The Belfry from August 20–24, 2025.

It’s a homecoming of sorts for Matt Fitzpatrick, who captured his maiden DP World Tour victory at this very event in 2015.

A decade later, the Sheffield native is bringing world-class pedigree, a sharp short game, and an eye on Ryder Cup glory to one of the calendar’s most storied stops.

“I’m delighted to be playing in the Betfred British Masters this year,” said Fitzpatrick. “The Belfry is such an iconic venue with incredible history, and having Sir Nick as host makes it even more special.”

Special, yes—and high stakes, too. This year’s British Masters isn’t just another week on tour; it marks the final counting event for European Ryder Cup Qualification. Cue the pressure cooker. The Brabazon Course is set to be a battleground as hopefuls jostle for a seat on Captain Luke Donald’s transatlantic flight.

“This tournament has always held a special place on the DP World Tour calendar, and with it being the final counting event for Ryder Cup qualification, there’s added motivation to perform well,” added Fitzpatrick.

“The Brabazon Course is a fantastic test of golf, and I’m looking forward to the challenge. Playing in front of home crowds is always something I relish.”

Fitzpatrick’s CV has matured considerably since that breakthrough win at Woburn. Now boasting nine DP World Tour victories and a Major to his name—the 2022 U.S. Open at Brookline, no less—he returns to British soil as one of Europe’s premier contenders. In fact, he’s the first Englishman since Justin Rose in 2013 to hoist that particular trophy.

He joins a field that’s shaping up to be both explosive and consequential. Alongside defending champion Niklas Nørgaard and confirmed appearances by Captain Donald and U.S. Team Vice Captain Brandt Snedeker, there’s no shortage of star power—or Ryder Cup implications.

For those unfamiliar with its heritage, the Betfred British Masters has long been a jewel in the DP World Tour’s crown.

The Belfry itself—set in Sutton Coldfield—has seen no shortage of golfing legends walk its fairways. It first welcomed the Tour in 1979, when a swashbuckling Seve Ballesteros won the Lada English Golf Classic. Since then, 21 Tour events have graced the venue, including four Ryder Cups.

Faldo, hosting this year’s edition, brings his own gravitas to the party. A six-time Major Champion and Ryder Cup icon, he’s no stranger to the weight of golf’s biggest moments.

Tickets are moving quicker than a Fitzpatrick fairway finder, with General Admission, Ticket+, and Premium Experience options already in high demand. For those hoping to witness Ryder Cup dreams realized—or dashed—now’s the time.
