England Golf Teams Selected for European Team Championships

England Golf has announced the rosters for the upcoming European Team Championships, set to take place from July 9-13, 2024.

These selections mark an exciting time for England’s golf enthusiasts as the country’s best talents prepare to compete on the continental stage.

European Women’s Team Championship – Spain

Competing at the prestigious Real Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo, the England Women’s team is set to defend their impressive legacy.

The lineup includes:

  • Jess Baker: A 21-year-old from Northumberland, Jess is known for winning the 2022 Women’s Amateur Championship and has already secured three top-10 finishes in 2024.
  • Rosie Belsham: Hailing from Whitley Bay, Rosie has represented England in 2022 and 2023. She boasts victories at the Collegiate Invitational in Mexico and the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in the USA.
  • Lily Hirst: This 21-year-old from Huddersfield won the English Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship and has multiple top-10 finishes in the USA.
  • Nellie Ong: At just 18, Nellie from Eaton has an impressive track record including a win at the Welsh Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship.
  • Mimi Rhodes: The 22-year-old from Burnham & Berrow has a series of top-10 finishes and significant wins including the Campeonato Internacional Absoluto de Andalucia in Spain.
  • Patience Rhodes: Also from Burnham & Berrow, Patience has helped Europe win the Patsy Hankins Trophy and has strong finishes in various international competitions.

England’s women have a storied history in this competition, with 12 titles and seven runner-up finishes, including recent victories in 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2022.

European Men’s Team Championship – Italy

Royal Park in Italy will host the England Men’s team, featuring:

  • Jack Bigham: From Harpenden, Jack has notable performances, including a 4th place at the 2023 European Amateur Championship and representation in the Walker Cup.
  • Dominic Clemons: The Gog Magog golfer recently secured a spot at The Open and won the Scottish Men’s Open Championship by a stunning 17 shots.
  • Will Hopkins: Representing Belton Park, Will has a win at the Lytham Trophy and strong performances in Australia and Europe.
  • Matthew Dodd-Berry: From Royal Liverpool, Matthew has booked his place in The Open and has notable victories including the SoCon Men’s Golf Championship.
  • Harley Smith: The 19-year-old from Rayleigh has several top-10 finishes this year and has represented England in multiple international events.
  • Tyler Weaver: Representing Bury St Edmunds, Tyler has a series of match play victories in the NCAA Finals and the Carris Trophy to his name.

England’s men have clinched the championship 10 times, with their most recent win in 2013, and runner-up finishes from 2017 to 2019.

European Boys’ Team Championship – Austria

At the Diamond Golf & Country Club, the England Boys’ team comprises:

  • Ben Bolton: The 16-year-old from Enville has a remarkable 2023, winning the European Young Masters and several other championships.
  • Seb Desoisa: A Gibraltarian representing Alcadeisa, Seb has 15 top-five finishes and victories in the Spanish U18 Championship.
  • Daniel Hayes: From Bramhall, Daniel has multiple top finishes in various championships and represented England in significant junior competitions.
  • Charlie Rusbridge: The Colne Valley golfer has a stellar 2024 with wins at the English U18 Amateur Championship and Essex Amateur County Championship.
  • Kris Kim: A rising star from Walton Heath, Kris made his PGA Tour debut at 16 and has significant junior victories.
  • Oscar Lent: Also from Walton Heath, Oscar has multiple top-five finishes and has represented Surrey in Boys’ County Finals.

The boys’ team has historically been strong, with eight wins and seven runner-up finishes, their last victory dating back to 2004.

European Girls’ Team Championship – Sweden

The England Girls’ team heads to Gothenburg’s Golf Club with a strong lineup:

  • Sadie Adams: From Royal Birkdale, Sadie has victories at the Fairhaven Trophy and Irish Girls’ Amateur Open Championship.
  • Charlotte Naughton: A 16-year-old from Longhirst Hall, Charlotte has multiple runner-up finishes and a win at the 2022 English U14 Girls’ Championship.
  • Isla McDonald-O’Brien: Representing Shrewsbury, Isla has top-10 finishes at the Annika Invitational Europe and Junior Orange Bowl International.
  • Matilde Santilli: From Foxhills, Matilde has impressive finishes in 2024, including joint-winner at the Critchley Astor Salver.
  • Chloe Tarbard: The Royal Norwich golfer has won the Scottish Girls’ Open Championship and has represented England in various junior internationals.
  • Amelia Wan: From Sherwood Forest, Amelia has a top-five finish at the 2024 European Cup of Nations and extensive representation for England in junior competitions.

The girls’ team has one championship win in 2005 and runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2011.
