Respect in Golf isn’t just a slogan—it’s now the proud badge of honour worn by every single golf club and county across England.
After all 1,735 clubs and 60 county unions fulfilled the England Golf Terms of Affiliation, the nationwide golfing family has confirmed its commitment to making the game as open and inclusive as possible.
Not only does this mark a major milestone in equality, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) efforts—ensuring no one is turned away or treated unfairly—it also complements the SafeGolf accreditation that focuses on creating a positive and secure environment.
In short, if you’re teeing up anywhere in the country, you’re stepping onto fairways that welcome you as you are.
The Respect in Golf movement was launched in 2023 to break down barriers and let everyone—regardless of background.
The message is clear: there is no room for discrimination in the sport, and progress is measured not just by lowered handicaps but by increased diversity.
England Golf Chief Executive Jeremy Tomlinson stated: “Our England Golf Support Team have worked tirelessly to support clubs and counties across the country in 2024 to become Respect in Golf accredited.
“Respect in Golf runs through everything we do on a daily basis, so it’s a huge achievement for our sport to have all clubs and counties in agreement and on board with what we are collectively trying to achieve.
“We have made, and continue to make, great strides in not only increasing participation throughout underrepresented groups, but also addressing and changing long-held perceptions of golf.
“By continuing to educate people about Respect in Golf and working alongside our fellow Home Nations, industry partners and affiliated clubs, we remain committed to driving the message that there is no place for any form of discrimination in golf.
Golf belongs to everyone and all who play, and all who aspire to play, must have an equal opportunity to do so.
“We embrace our responsibility to inspire the most welcoming environment for all to enjoy our sport, and our role to prioritise that the safety and integrity of all in our sport is protected.”
As part of this commitment, England Golf has also extended a helping hand to non-traditional golfing venues—like driving ranges and adventure golf courses—through facility affiliation.
Over 80 such spots have already signed on, benefitting from support programs designed to attract new players, bolster inclusion, and underscore the importance of safeguarding.
Back in 2023, a survey of 22,000 people offered revealing insights into golf’s culture, highlighting the need for real, lasting change.
Now, with every club in England flying the “Respect” banner and more facilities joining the movement, the sport is swinging in a better, more welcoming direction for every enthusiast.

After all, the only thing sweeter than sinking a 30-foot putt is knowing everyone’s invited to give it a try.
