Cam Smith and Ripper GC Surge Ahead at LIV Greenbrier: Epic Sunday Showdown Awaits

Captain Cameron Smith of Ripper GC and his: caddie, Sam Pinfold

Once the driver started working again, Cam Smith decided it was winning time.

Cam Smith and his Ripper teammates absolutely dominated Saturday at The Greenbrier, moving past Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC for sole possession of first place. Smith (11-under; T6), along with teammates Lucas Herbert (12-under; T2) and Marc Leishman (11-under; T6) each ended Saturday in the top ten.

Off the tee, on the green, and even through the rough, Cam was near-perfect, finishing the day 7-under par, helping Ripper GC go into Championship Sunday with a score of 36-under.

Smash, who looked like they were ready to break the team tournament record for points in a weekend after starting Friday 20-under couldn’t keep up with the surging Australians.

Captain Brooks Koepka (12-under; T2) had a phenomenal Saturday, shooting 6-under par and currently sits in a four-way tie for second place.

Teammates Talor Gooch (12-under; T2) and Jason Kokrak (11-under; T6) kept the faith and shrank Ripper’s lead late in the day to ensure an ultra-competitive, compelling, and entertaining Sunday where anything is possible!

Individual Championship Up for Grabs

Nobody was more pleased with their Saturday finish than Jon Rahm who has positioned himself favourably to make a run for the LIV Individual Championship in Chicago, September 13 – 15.

Rahm, who had the best Saturday of the entire field, ended the day shooting 8-under par and sits alone in first place with a total score of 14-under.

Rahm will seek his second consecutive victory after winning LIV’s last event at JCB Golf and Country Club in the United Kingdom.

Joaquin Neimann (6-under; T20), the current individual standings leader, has likely taken himself out of contention for a top-ten finish at Greenbrier considering the ease of The Old White course and how well the field ahead of him is currently doing.

If Neimann were to finish outside the top nine and Rahm ends up winning, it would set up a LIV Chicago event where Jon Rahm would be the front-runner, as opposed to Neimann who has dominated the standings for the vast majority of the season.

The Legion XIII captain has also kept his team in contention, as they currently sit in the third-place, five points behind Smash and six behind Ripper.

A win for Legion XIII would catapult them into first place overall, as it’s unlikely that Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC, who are currently a team 19-under, can make a run for a podium finish this weekend.

Richard Bland in Contention for First Win

Bland (12-under; T2) , who was our No. 2 fantasy option for LIV Greenbrier, performed admirably, shooting a second consecutive 6-under par, paving the way for a chance at securing his first-ever individual LIV title!

The 51-year-old has already won the U.S. Senior Open and Senior PGA Championship in 2024, but has never won a LIV tournament. If there was ever a chance for a complete underdog to win, it’s Bland’s time right now.
