Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson is set to make his first-ever appearance at the BNI Indonesian Masters later this month, and it’s already creating quite the buzz.
This US$2 million event on the Asian Tour will be held at Royale Jakarta Golf Club from 31 October to 3 November, and it’s part of The International Series — a big deal on the tour circuit.
Watson, who currently captains RangeGoats GC in the LIV Golf League, isn’t coming alone though.
He’ll be joining some other major names like John Catlin, who’s been dominating both the Asian Tour Order of Merit and The International Series Rankings.
If that wasn’t enough, Watson will be playing alongside LIV stars Richard Bland from England and New Zealand’s Danny Lee.
The defending champ, Gaganjeet Bhullar from India, is also returning, along with Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and China’s rising star, Ding Wenyi, who just turned pro after winning the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.
This will be Bubba’s first tournament in Indonesia, and although it’s his ninth time playing on the Asian Tour, he’s no stranger to making waves.
He’s come close before, finishing runner-up at the Thailand Golf Championship in 2012 and again at the Saudi International a couple of years ago. And let’s face it, Bubba’s not one to hold back on his enthusiasm for playing abroad.
“As everyone knows I have really enjoyed playing in tournaments overseas and so I am really excited about playing in Indonesia for the first time.
I enjoy coming to Asia and soaking in the sights and sounds and also seeing the diverse mixture of players out here.
“The BNI Indonesian Masters plays a big part in The International Series, which provides a pathway onto the LIV Golf League.
I’m a big believer in LIV Golf and I’m proud of the impact it has had on the game of golf worldwide.” Bubba said, clearly ready for a new challenge.
With two Masters titles under his belt (2012 and 2014), 12 PGA Tour wins, and victories in two World Golf Championships, not to mention four Ryder Cup appearances, Watson’s resume speaks for itself.
His presence is sure to crank up the excitement at the BNI Indonesian Masters, which is the seventh stop on The International Series and the 17th event of the Asian Tour season.
