BMW PGA Championship 2025: Åberg, Fleetwood & Lowry Among Confirmed Entries

The BMW PGA Championship 2025 is shaping up to be the most eagerly anticipated stop on the Rolex Series calendar, with September 9–14 earmarked for world-class drama at Wentworth’s famed West Course.

From five-time Major winner Rory McIlroy to defending champion Billy Horschel, this year’s tournament has already attracted an elite cast—now bolstered by Ryder Cup stalwarts Ludvig Åberg, Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry.

Ryder Cup Allies Reunite on the West Course

When Europe lifted the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone in 2023, they did it together—and Åberg, Fleetwood and Lowry are keen to recapture that magic at the BMW PGA Championship 2025.

All three competed alongside McIlroy in Rome, and all bring recent successes to Wentworth:

  • Shane Lowry, victorious at this very event in 2022, boasts 14 top-20 finishes in his last 17 starts worldwide.
  • Ludvig Åberg claimed his second PGA TOUR title at The Genesis Invitational and will return to West Course for the second time after leading through 54 holes on debut in 2023.
  • Tommy Fleetwood, a three-time Ryder Cup star, has kicked off 2025 with five top-20 results in seven starts, including a seventh-place finish at the RBC Heritage.

Form, Familiarity and Fierce Competition

Lowry’s 16th appearance at the BMW PGA Championship 2025 underlines his affinity for Wentworth.

“I’ve made no secret of the fact that the BMW PGA Championship is an event I always look forward to playing in,” said the Irishman.

“Even before my win a few years ago, it was a tournament I always marked on my calendar and it has really gone from strength to strength as a Rolex Series event. It’s a course I really enjoy playing and I’m excited to return to Wentworth later this year.”

Åberg, fresh from knee-surgery recovery, vividly recalls his debut haul. “Looking back at that week, it was a great learning experience being in that position so early in my professional career,” he reflected.

“I was disappointed to miss last year’s event due to injury, so I’m excited to get back to Wentworth and hopefully give myself another chance at winning the title.”

Fleetwood’s pedigree extends beyond the ropes. The Olympic Silver Medallist will contest his 14th consecutive BMW PGA Championship 2025, buoyed by his adoring home crowds.

“Playing in front of the home crowds is always a thrill and the fans at the BMW PGA Championship play such a large part in making the event the success that it is,” he said. “It doesn’t get much better than playing in front of 100,000 people over the course of the week.”

Beyond the Trophy: Rolex Series and Ryder Cup Prelude

As part of The Back 9 on the 2025 Race to Dubai, the BMW PGA Championship 2025 carries significant ranking points ahead of Europe’s final tune-up before Bethpage Black.

Luke Donald’s squad will be keeping a close eye on form, with this prestigious Rolex Series event offering both the swirl of championship air and the strategic battles that define golf’s greatest team contest.

Whether you’re chasing history, form or simply the perfect wedge shot on the West Course, the BMW PGA Championship 2025 promises six days of world-class golf, electric atmospheres and those unmissable moments that linger long after the last putt drops.
