Matt Wallace Returns to British Masters in Crucial Ryder Cup Year

If there’s a place Matt Wallace knows like the back of his golf-gloved hand, it’s The Belfry—and he’s heading back there this August with one eye on glory and the other firmly on Rome.

The 35-year-old Englishman is set to tee it up on home soil at the 2025 Betfred British Masters, hosted by none other than Sir Nick Faldo, running from August 21–24.

Wallace, who claimed his fifth DP World Tour title at the Omega European Masters last year, returns to Europe with a Ryder Cup-sized itch he’s desperate to scratch.

With just seven weeks to go before the biennial transatlantic tear-up, the Betfred British Masters offers one final hurrah in the Race to Dubai’s qualification chaos—and Wallace isn’t showing up just for the free biscuits.

“The Betfred British Masters is a superb event and one that I always like to tee it up in if my schedule allows,”

Well, schedule be damned—this year’s edition sits at a critical crossroads in the DP World Tour season. It marks the start of the so-called “Back 9” and the end of the road for Ryder Cup hopefuls.

If you’re angling for a spot on Luke Donald’s team, there’s no more wiggle room. Perform, or pack a couch cushion and watch it on TV like the rest of us.

And Wallace? He’s no stranger to making noise at this event. A runner-up in 2018 and eighth-place finisher last year, the London lad also notched a PGA TOUR win in 2023 at the Corales Puntacana Championship—proof that his passport has stamps and his trophy cabinet has shelves.

“Sir Nick is somebody who I have always looked up to and his influence on this tournament is clear for everyone to see. I know this year’s event will be even better than last year and I’m looking forward to returning to The Belfry. It’s a venue I’m lucky to know well, the people there are great, and it continues to grow and grow.

“There is still so much to play for this year and starting an exciting run of events in Europe is something that I am relishing.”

He’s not the only one. The 2025 Betfred British Masters field is shaping up like a vintage bottle of claret—smooth, strong, and liable to leave you spinning.

2022 U.S. Open champ Matt Fitzpatrick is in. So’s defending champion Niklas Nørgaard, Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, and U.S. vice captain Brandt Snedeker, who’ll be making his debut at The Belfry (no word yet on whether he’ll bring his cowboy boots or just the classic jangle of nerves).

Add in Dan Brown—fresh off a BMW International Open win—and 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett, a past host of this event, and you’ve got a recipe for serious fireworks on the Brabazon.

Ah yes, the Brabazon Course. If turf could talk, The Belfry’s legendary fairways would probably mumble something about Ballesteros and bite marks from Ryder Cup tension.

The Betfred British Masters is steeped in the kind of history you can’t fake with Instagram filters. This year’s tournament will be the 22nd DP World Tour event hosted at the Sutton Coldfield venue, dating back to 1979 when Seve first strutted his stuff and won the Lada English Golf Classic.

Tickets? They’re selling faster than hot pies at the halfway hut. Whether you’re after General Admission or posh Premium Experiences, now’s the time to secure your place—especially if you fancy rubbing elbows with Europe’s finest as they battle for glory, pride, and perhaps a boarding pass to Rome.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you. Wallace is coming. So are Fitzpatrick, Snedeker, and half of Team Europe. And if you’ve never seen The Belfry in late summer, just imagine Augusta with a Midlands accent.
