Adrian Meronk Targets Ryder Cup Bid at Macau, Receives Encouragement from Luke Donald

Adrian Meronk, the towering Polish standout on the LIV Golf circuit, is counting on a standout showing at the International Series Macau presented by Wynn to bolster his Ryder Cup ambitions this year.

The 31-year-old confirmed that Team Europe captain Luke Donald has already been in touch, giving him a nudge of approval for his recent run of form.

With the next biannual showdown between the United States and Europe set for later this year at Bethpage Black, Meronk launched his season in style by capturing a floodlit victory at the LIV Golf Riyadh event in February.

That triumph built on the wave of momentum he’s enjoyed since late 2022, when he hoisted the Australian Open trophy, and in May 2023, when he clinched the Italian Open on the same Marco Simone course that hosted the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Although Meronk barely missed out on the last European team—falling just shy of automatic qualification and then overlooked for a captain’s pick—he hasn’t let that disappointment derail his ambitions.

Standing six-foot-six, he joined Cleeks GC in the LIV Golf League and remains firmly on Donald’s radar for future selections.

Meronk is currently teeing it up at the International Series Macau presented by Wynn, an elevated Asian Tour event offering three coveted berths for The Open Championship. Here’s how Meronk sees his progress so far:

He said: “Definitely, there are still lots of tournaments to be played, and competing against those guys on LIV Golf is not easy. So yes, if you are getting top 10s on there, you are playing well.

“Luke Donald texted me after my win in Riyadh and said, ‘keep playing well.’ Obviously, if I am playing well, I will be available and I want to play. But it is not my main goal. I think the focus is just to play well and see what happens.

“I feel like my game is progressing nicely, but I just need to be patient and work hard and see what happens.”

Landing in the top three at Macau would secure Meronk a ticket to The Open at Royal Portrush in July. With a bit of ground to make up, he’s determined to make every shot count:

He said: “It is the biggest goal this weekend, to grab one of those spots. I will need to have a good weekend to do that.

Yes it is huge for us, especially for me. I do not have any majors yet this year, so that is going to be the main focus for this tournament.”

As for his thoughts on The International Series—10 elevated tournaments scattered across the Asian Tour—Meronk has found the experience refreshingly positive: He said: “I like it. I already played the PIF Saudi International last year, and the set-up, the hospitality, everything is great.

“We are well taken care of and this week the course is bit different, and it is fun to play. I have enjoyed it, and hopefully I can produce some good golf.”
