Sunningdale is bracing for an all-star golfing summer, as the 2025 ISPS HANDA Senior Open returns to the Old Course from July 23-27.
This grand reunion of golfing legends promises to be a feast of shot-making, strategic brilliance, and a dash of nostalgia.
The ISPS HANDA Senior Open field boasts some of the game’s greatest names. Thomas Bjørn, Ernie Els, and Colin Montgomerie join three-time Major Champion and ISPS HANDA Ambassador Pádraig Harrington for a week of golf that’s set to remind us all why these men have become legends.

ISPS HANDA, the philanthropic brainchild of Dr. Haruhisa Handa, has signed on as title partner of The Senior Open, continuing its proud legacy of supporting professional and amateur golf across the globe.
With a mantra that sport has the power to unite and uplift, ISPS HANDA’s involvement ensures the 2025 event will be more than just a tournament—it will be a celebration.
Sunningdale has already hosted the ISPS HANDA Senior Open three times, most recently in 2021. For those who remember the roars of past years, expect the same electric atmosphere as tickets are now on sale.
Montgomerie, who once ruled European golf like a benevolent monarch with seven consecutive Order of Merits from 1993 to 1999, summed up the excitement perfectly.
“The Old Course at Sunningdale is an excellent test of golf and we are all looking forward to returning there later this year,” Montgomerie said.
“It’s always a pleasure playing in front of fans in the United Kingdom and they are in for a real treat this summer. The standard of golf in the over-50s game is so high, so the stage is set for a special week.”
And let’s not forget Ernie Els. The South African ‘Big Easy’ made his Senior Open debut at Sunningdale in 2021, finishing a respectable eighth. Now he’s back, with a Major already under his belt from the Kaulig Companies Championship last year.
“I’m really excited for this year’s ISPS HANDA Senior Open,” Els said. “Sunningdale is an incredible venue and it would mean a lot to me to get a win so close to my home at Wentworth. My game is in good shape, and I hope to carry that form into the Senior Open in July.”
Then there’s Thomas Bjørn, Denmark’s finest golfing export. With 15 DP World Tour victories and a captain’s role in Europe’s 2018 Ryder Cup win, Bjørn knows a thing or two about competitive fire.
“It’s great having ISPS HANDA on board as Title Partner of this wonderful Championship,” Bjørn said. “I’ve only had the chance to play in The Senior Open a couple of times, but the standard is so high, you really have to be on your game to compete at this level.”
As for Harrington, the man never seems to tire of chasing trophies. After three near-misses at The Senior Open, the Irishman is hungry for a breakthrough.
“Sunningdale is a fantastic golf course and I’m looking forward to seeing the challenge it presents us with a Senior Open setup,” Harrington said. “I’ve had a few close calls in this Championship so far and would love to be in contention again going down the stretch.”
