In what promises to be a milestone moment for English youth golf, England Golf has unveiled its line-up for the 2025 Junior Golf World Cup, set to take place at the hallowed Chukyo Golf Club in Japan from June 24 to 27.
And here’s a slice of history served with your tee times: for the first time ever, both England’s boys’ and girls’ teams are heading to the event together.
Leading the charge for the boys are Harry Cox, Sam Marshall, and Jack Swift — names that, if you haven’t heard yet, you probably will in the not-so-distant future.
On the girls’ side, Lauren Crump, Charlotte Naughton, and Matilde Santilli are breaking new ground as the first England Girls squad to ever qualify for this global stage. Not bad for a debut, eh?
“It’s an honour to have both the England Girls’ and Boys’ teams invited to Japan to compete in the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup for the first time together,” said England Golf Deputy Performance Director Steve Burnett.
“For decades now, this tournament has been the gold standard for international junior golf and it’s an experience the players will never forget.”
Burnett’s not exaggerating. The Junior Golf World Cup is where promising prodigies turn into household names. Just ask Joaquin Niemann, Rasmus Højgaard, or Corey Conners — all of whom topped the individual leaderboard here before finding themselves teeing off alongside the titans of the pro circuit.
The podium has also welcomed the likes of Ludvig Åberg, Nicolai Højgaard and CT Pan. In other words, this isn’t just a warm-up act. It’s a pressure cooker with a panoramic view of the future.
England Boys, mind you, have some serious pedigree at this event. They’ve hoisted the trophy three times since the tournament’s inception in 1992, with their last team victory coming back in 2002.
That year, a young Matthew Richardson also claimed the individual title. Nick Dougherty took top honours three years prior, in 1999. Since then, though? A bit of a dry spell — one that this year’s trio of Cox, Marshall and Swift will be hoping to end.
As for the girls, their presence alone is historic. But don’t mistake debut status for wide-eyed naivety. These three are packing talent, grit, and the sort of quiet determination that tends to catch fire when the stakes are high.
The Junior Golf World Cup isn’t just another international tournament — it’s a rite of passage, wrapped in the form of four days of stroke play on Japanese soil.
For many, it’s the first real taste of representing their country abroad. For a lucky few, it’s the first time their name appears on the same leaderboard as tomorrow’s world No.1.
Come June, the flags will be flying, the greens rolling true, and the pressure dialled up to “career-defining.”
For England’s six young golfers, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime shot to make their mark — and maybe, just maybe, bring home a bit of silver for Queen and country.
Let’s keep our eyes on Chukyo. After all, the Junior Golf World Cup has a habit of turning hopefuls into headlines.
