Staff WriterEngland Golf have named their 10‑strong squad for the England-Spain match, set to take place at La Galiana Golf Resort on 25–26 April.
The women’s quartet—Sadie Adams, Charlotte Naughton, Matilde Santilli and Amelia Wan—will tee it up alongside men’s contenders Eliot Baker, Ben Bolton, Daniel Hayes, Kris Kim, Tom Osborne and Charlie Rusbridge.
Fresh faces and familiar ambition
This year’s England Golf Spain match will welcome six debutants: Kris Kim and Charlie Rusbridge make their first England Men’s appearances, while Sadie Adams, Charlotte Naughton and Matilde Santilli earn their inaugural England Women’s caps. Amelia Wan returns, the only player from the 2023 drama to feature again in this month’s contest.
Match format and dramatic history
Over two days, competitors contest five morning foursomes followed by ten afternoon singles. Since its inception in 1987, England have dominated the England Golf Spain match, triumphing 16 times to Spain’s two.
The 2023 edition at Worplesdon witnessed one of the competition’s greatest comebacks: England rallied from 12.5–7.5 down to draw 15–15, with Wan the lone returning player in this season’s line‑up.
Manager’s view: pride, pressure and legacy
Men’s Performance Manager Ben Gorvett is relishing the challenge:
“We’re looking forward to battling a fierce Spanish team, especially during this year which is a match play filled year. We’re hoping to emulate the success of our Under 16s team who beat Spain recently, and to retain ‘Seve’s hands’ back at England Golf.
“There are a number of players receiving their first men’s and women’s caps this year and it’ll be a proud moment for them – it’s a great milestone in a person’s golfing career to represent their country and being an elite amateur, before moving onto the professional scene.”
