The England Under 16s didn’t just show up at Seaton Carew this weekend—they put on a clinic.
In a blustery battle against a fiery Spanish side, these young golfers proved they’ve got more than just potential, cruising to a 16-8 win that was as polished as it was gritty.
From the first tee shot to the last tap-in, they played with the kind of nerve and flair that makes you sit up and think, this lot could be something special.
England raced to an 8-4 lead after the opening day’s matches. Although Spain rallied to level the morning foursomes 2-2 on Sunday, the afternoon singles saw the home side unleash a flurry of top-class golf, winning 6-2.
That decisive run sealed the overall score at 16-8 and set the tone for a memorable international performance.
Within the squad, the England Girls earned a 9-5-2.5 victory, while the Boys clinched a 6.5-5.5 result.
Two standout performances came from Emily Peaford and Lauren Crump, both of whom went undefeated in their four matches.
Leo Cahi also posted an unbeaten record in his England debut, illustrating the strength and depth of this promising lineup.
England Assistant Performance Manager India Clyburn praised the team’s efforts, saying, “It’s been a great two days of competitive matches between us and Spain.
Seaton Carew stood up as a great test of links golf with some cold weather and a stiff breeze, especially on Sunday afternoon, but overall the team played great and it’s great to see the hard work over winter pay off.
“These matches are perfect opportunities to gain that international match experience.
It’s yet another win for us and we’re looking forward to getting the season underway, with four of the girls heading to Scotland this week for the Scottish Girls’ Championship at Arbroath Golf Club.”
With the way these England Under 16s performed, the future of English junior golf appears bright.
Their convincing victory in tough conditions provides a powerful reminder that this squad is more than ready to compete—and prevail—at the highest levels of the game.
