Mimi Rhodes shone brightly at the Joburg Ladies Open on Sunday, capturing her second straight win on the Ladies European Tour at Modderfontein Golf Club.
The event, co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Ladies Tour, proved a dramatic stage where England’s rising star outlasted a valiant challenge from South Africa’s Casandra Alexander.
Rhodes, in her rookie season, demonstrated remarkable composure under pressure.
Despite a tournament shortened to 54 holes by inclement weather, she maintained a three-shot lead into the final round.
The back-nine proved to be a crucible of nerves and skill as Alexander, with a final round of 69 that brought her to 13 under par, nearly forced a playoff by narrowing the gap on multiple occasions.
By the time they reached the 18th, the air was thick with nerves—and probably a few prayers.

Rhodes, clinging to a one-shot lead, sent her approach sailing long, landing in that awkward “uh-oh” territory behind the green.
But the rookie didn’t flinch. She stepped up and clipped a beauty of a chip that cosied right up to the hole for a tap-in par.
Alexander, steady as ever, gave herself a real look at birdie from eight feet, but when the putt slid past, so did her chance to force extra holes.
Germany’s Helen Briem also made a strong charge, carding a 68 to finish third at 11 under par.
Reflecting on her achievement, Rhodes said, “I never would’ve imagined this. It’s a dream come true to be playing so well so early in my career.

I’m honestly lost for words. It’s amazing and I can’t wait for the rest of the season and hopefully I can keep the good golf going.”
Speaking about the final hole and her strategy, she added, “I was just thinking one shot at a time.
I’d been chipping well all day and the shot felt comfortable. I just thought I’ve got nothing to lose so commit to it. I’m happy I pulled it off.”
Rhodes’s triumph at the Joburg Ladies Open marks a significant milestone in her career, especially as she continues to build momentum on the tour.
Her back-to-back victories follow her win at last week’s Ford Women’s NSW Open in Australia, solidifying her status as a formidable competitor.
As the season hurtles toward its finale, Casandra Alexander still holds the reins atop the Investec Order of Merit heading into next week’s Investec South African Women’s Open at Erinvale.
With the talent on display—and the leaderboard tighter than a drum—the Ladies European Tour is setting up for a blockbuster finish that’s got fans and players alike holding their breath.
